Default Petal disc vs Round disc

Can anyone tell me how do the round and petal disc differ, apart from the obvious shape? Which one is better and why?

The petal brakes reduce the unsprung weight of the bike and also provide better heat dissipation needed to maintain brake feel and responsiveness during extended heavy use..

a petal disc has more surface area for heat dissipation than that in a normal round disc of same diameter. So it increases the effeciency and life of the disc and the disc-pads.
weight of the petal disc is also less compared with a round disc..it adds to performance..
So petal discs are always better..

If you draw a complete circle and consider that a disc ok?

now start making small triangles on the circumference of the circle, ( close to the shape of the notches that are there on a petal type disc). All of that is material removed from the disc, which being of high grade steel, helps reduce the weight.

The slightest of weight reduction at the wheel, will lower the rotational momentum, ie. a wheel with a higher rotational momentum, will change direction slowly or will require more force. A wheel with a lower rotational momentum will require lesser effort, and will be more responsive in terms of handling .

Morever the notches increase the effect surface area at the rim of the disc, hence causing better heat dissipation to the air flowing over the disc.

And finally, a petal disc looks any day better than a normal disc!! lol!!
