Never ever keep going behind a car in traffic for a long time
The car went over a deep pothole and i not knowing it collapsed due to it on my activa leading to a nasty fall.. some time in air and then seeing yourself collapsing on the road is somewhat a hell of an experience... May be due to bad road, but it happened. since then i never keep on going behind a car if i have to, i keep at-least 8-9 meters distance... |

one more alternative would be to align yourself to a side of the car in front of you, i would prefer to align to the driver-side. The trick is car will try to escape the poth hole by centering the whole vehicle, so if you are in either of the ends then minimal chances of collapsing over the hole....but safe braking distance is a must and the above is not advisable in night times......

in city conditions it might not be possible to keep a 8-9 meters distance between you and the leading car, but on the highway, you must keep a 2-second distance between yourself and the vehicle you are trailing (car, bus, bike)

from my personal experience:
1. if you are angry, never let it affect your riding. 2. ride your own ride. dont get fixated and follow the leading bikes every move. keep at least 100 feet from the other bikes in the riding group when on the open road. 3. be very defensive. bikes are small vehicles and hard to make out at dusk. assume others are morons and will do a drunken stagger right in your path. keep at least your parking lights on at all times, no matter how many people remind you its on. i just politely nod and let them know i am aware of it. 4. dont zip through traffic. you wil make faster progress if if you ride cleverly in traffic. 5. in a road side argument keep the ignition key in your own hands. 6. dont show off, to peers or the public. there is a time and place for everything. 7. try to take care of other road users. unlike most of us here, most road users dont pay attention to their riding and usually, have no inclination to be better riders... no matter what they say. especially 40~60 year olds. they tend to be overconfident and may ride carelessly. maybe they are too preoccupied with the worry of their 20 year old kids. iignoring everythng i have said has resulted in my crash or a crash i have witnessed. and the most important: do not push the limits of your bike on the public roads. there are tracks for that. i agree nowhere near enough of them, but they are there. if you crash on the road, you will likely hit something... even worse... someone. on the track, you just fall and slide into the grass. cheers

This may seem basic, but still:
When overtaking some big vehicle, say, a bus or truck, which is blocking your view of what is on the road in front, first check what vehicles are in front of the bus/truck or in your projected path once you overtake. Example: I was stuck behind this super-slow bus for a looong time. Got really impatient, saw a small gap on the left side and zoomed in. There was a truck right next to the bus! Just managed to stop in time. Would have been better if I had seen what all vehicles were there around. Needless to say, I make sure of this everytime .

1. Respect and fear bigger vehicles.
2. if you have to cross the road on your bike, then you need to wait untill road is clear but not make the road clear by stopping the oncoming vehicles. 3. Patience is the virtue. will addup as i get through.
