Default How often Do you get your bike washed or wash it yourself?

Hi all,

i wanted to know whats the general opinion on washing bikes, and cleaning them.

generally i have seen people washing their bikes once a week, and then later complaining of issues with rusting or electrical problems.

IMO, bikes should be washed once a month or lesser even, and should generally be kept clean with a cloth and good storage ( keeping covered, or in a location where dust accumulation is lesser). This helps increase the life of the machine, avoids rusting, and lowers the onus on the owner to keep the bike clean.

What are your opinions/suggestions etc???

Should i add a poll to this???

General Biking Discussion Approved.

I never wash my bike, always just wipe her and polish it once or twice a week. This, more than makes me satisfied with her "hygiene".

Every sat/sun i wipe my bike clean with a wet cloth all over the paint and alloys and thats it.
Twice a month i give it a water wash with "Amway Car Wash" which produces fantastic results, after that use 3M liquid polish or Formula 1 carnauba wax to give a brilliant shine and protect paint finish.

The problem with bikes like 220 is that when you give it a nice good water wash, you have to lube the chain too.
Maintaining black color is tough too and requires regular cleaning, also i feel embarassed when my bike is full of dirt and am riding it (couldnt wipe clean).
The joy of riding a shiny black bike is more than hardwork required in bringing that shine.

I give a pressure wash whenever I see noticeable dirt (especially if I have ridden the previous day in rainy weather). Otherwise once a week pressure wash + polish. For daily rides, a wipe with a moist cloth is sufficient to take away the previous day's dust layer

I agree with coolboy.. The pleasure of riding a shiny black bike is worth every effort which goes to maintain it that way

Its been almost 1 month(750kms on odo) after getting my bike(p220-black) and iam yet to put a drop of water on it!!
I just clean it with a normal soft dry cloth.

Reason: Iam too lazy to clean my bike properly :P

I haven't washed my bike nor ever wiped it with a cloth since I bought it(about 1.5 year ago). My bike gets washed only at the service center at the time of servicing.

Yes I use the vaccuum cleaner in reverse (blow mode) to remove excess water.
