Well, ill start with mine, this was before i had started biking, me and my school friend had joined the same engineering college. After a number of arguments with his family, he took his pulsar 180 dtsi to college. I left college and came home to pursue other studies, and what i got to know a few months after suddenly one day that he had an accident in ambala.
He was coming back from the service station, after getting his bike serviced, was wearing a helmet. Overtook a rickshaw from the right, and was hit from behind from a Chandigarh transport bus. He survived the crash, but died due to delay in getting him to PGI chandigarh, because the local hospital in ambala couldnt do much and they referred him there. It was a heavy heavy feeling carrying his body to the cremation ground.. Changed me forever... Till date his family treats me and my friends ( we were a group of 4, now three of us), like their own kids, and they are heavily against me biking. Made me realise how fragile life is... Other incident, that keeps me from racing - College in delhi, empty road, 400mts drags being organised by my group of friends, i also happily participated in drag between my RX100 ( then ) and an ambition, i lost the drag, so was trailing the next racers, riding two ambitions. My friend on his brand new zma, done only about 1100 kms, comes, picks this girl up to sit behind him, and shoots off after the bikes that just went down the road. I was trailing at about 60 kmph, with a friend pillion. A truck comes in from the opposite side, so the guys stationed there, signal to end the race since its not safe. the riders had been given pre determined instructions that in case of any vehicle coming from the opposite direction, the one in front will swerve to the left, and the one at back will swerve to right and slow down. My friend caught up with the second rider at about 85-90 kmph and at that time that rider braked and swerved to the left, directly into his path.. The girl who was riding pillion, with no safety gear what so ever.. ( she was in a suit for crying out loud), flew over his left shoulder, taking the left rear view mirror with her ( we later found it in her dupatta), did something like three cartwheels on the sand alongside the road, and fell down. ( thankfully by gods grace, it was the only sandy patch on the road, and no trees were present, otherwise the road was lined with trees) She suffered just a bruised knee.. just a bruised knee.. and was badly shaken.. My friend flew from the bike, about 7-10 feet, into a ditch after the line of trees, and broke his shoulder bone.. The impact was so severe, that he dented the decently strong tank of the ZMA with his knee, and the chassis of the ambition was bent.. The entire front, plastic body etc of the zma was gone... total bill ~ 17k.... No more racing for me after that.. spirited driving yes, but alone..

^ Sorry about your friend..
I guess almost all of us have had some kind of experience that has shaken off that illusion of invincibility. We gotta learn from them, and go on with life in a better and more educated way.. Quite a few incidents of mine have shaped my riding to what it is now.. can't really list all of them but basically, most of them could've been avoided had I been more careful. So I've learnt to be more careful (obviously), never to take any other vehicle on the road for granted (whatever it may be - speed, direction) and always trying to err on the side of caution..

My world changed from smoke & 2T to ECM & 4 joke!!
|
Well, I like to share 2 funny incidents
1. Way back in 1997, I'd Max100 & those were my proud moments of owning a bike, just after college, a good job & a bike. So one day I was coming as usual from the office on the usual road which is not a main road. There was a boy in teens standing almost in the midde of the road. He stared at me, my bike & he stood still & never bothered to move. My blood boiled thinking how dares he block my way? I went straight & hit him with my bike & only when falling down did I realize that when you hit someone with a bike you'll also fall down!!! Now the usual scene happened, everyone came rushing up & were asking what happened & my hands were trembling. So someone asked me "What happened sir" & I couldn't speak due to fear. Someone in the crowd replied, "sir was coming OK, the boy jumped in between". I leave the next scenes to you imagination. However I came home with a broken headlights ![]() 2. Just a month back, I was waiting in the right most lane to take a right in my car along with my Son. When ensured I'm not disrupting the traffic, I started moving my car & boom from somewhere a Pulsar jumped in & rammed on to my left tyre, his bike on the front bumper & he fell down. I parked my car to the adjourning footpath, switched off the car, left my son in & kept the glass half opened. Meanwhile this biker gets up & comes to me charging up & tells me that I haven't seen the bike coming & I was careless & he was coming only in 40. I calmly tell him that I'm calling the cops & let them decide what happened; picked up my cell phone & called. Here's the conversation... Me: Good evening sir Other side(Os): Tell me da Me: Sir, are you around Anna Nagar or outside Os: I'm in Salem, tell me da Me: Yes, sir, some problem around, can you come down here? Os: Hey, I'm in Salem man, how can I come to Chennai Me: Yes, sir at Anna Nagar 13th main road Os: Hey man, I'm your friend Ramesh Me: Yes sir, I know Os: Did you call me by mistake? Me: No sir Os: Then what do you want? Me: Ok, sir, pls come, we will be waiting Os: Are you all right? Me: Yes sir, the bike number is TN.... Os: I didn't understand. What's going on? What is that bike number? Me: Ok sir. Thanks & phone call disconnected. Now I tell this biker that we wait here & the CI is coming. Now this guy is terrified & says, "you're all big shots & can do whatever you want. Pls let me go sir, I agree its my mistake". After 20 more minutes, I left home with Rs 380 & a week later the entire money was donated to a temple.

Well till mid last year i was among those who used to zip zam & zoom through the traffic braking really hard & almost doing rolling stoppies at the junctions. This incident is one of the MAJOR incidents which changed my idea towards life.
One day was going to a breakfast meet early in the morning. I was trailing an auto on the rightmost lane which was refusing to give way. I kept on honking & as it started moving the left i opened the throttle fully moving to the right only to find a dog in my way at a speed of about 110 kmph! I had around 2 seconds before i hit it. I squeezed the front lever without letting the weight shift & my front started skidding straight due to loss of traction. I hit the dog but at a lower speed of around 80 kmph. Skid into the poor soul which was staring at the beast charging towards it with awe! BANG & the dog was skidding along with me for over 3 seconds & when its body finally moved to the left & was out of contact with my front tyre, i crashed onto my left as the handle was wobbling beyond control just like a tank-slapper. Held the handle tight & dint let go the bike & took the whole impact on my left knee. My reflexes & experience in hard braking worked to some extent or i would have flied and crashed into the road divider. Fortunately i stood up only with a bruised knee. The bike was fine with a bent crash guard & damaged front footrest. I was hearing the cries of the dog so went there to have a look. It wasnt injured superficially but soon stopped crying, gave up the fight & closed its eyes. With the help of the people who came to help me out took the dog to the roadside. They started abusing the dog but i asked them to stop it & left within moments. Was feeling real bad & my mind was totally blank. But i was neither shocked nor scared. The after-effects of this have been region around knee which pains badly due to stress whenever i am on the saddle for over 2 hours. Even gear-shifts become really painful! I realised that i was over-speeding when there was no hurry & when the road was not properly lit. It led me to my first proper accident. Since then i have become more careful. I drive a bit more patiently & brake sooner. I still do HIGH speeds (whenever required or if the roads permit) but brake progressively in advance to slow down at ANYTHING that can throw me off the saddle. Iam not scared of getting back to my old riding style. I have realised that life is more important than the thrill of ripping & braking hard. An accident not only sets u back by many grands but can also render u unfit for hopping onto the saddle forever.

After Reading all these...I am now finding that not only me but EVERYONE has some bad or something like that incidents to share...
My Life is fully changed and the incident is still fresh in my mind. I lost a special Friend of mine forever.....His name was Ayush. His Bike was RTR 160 (w/ Rear Disc) Only 2 months old It was 30-October-2009...at evening he had to go to a B'Day party of a classmate.. After coaching we had little bit of fun but never realized that it was the last day I am enjoying with my buddy. Soon I left for home and gave my bike to my one more Close Friend to hit the party. Both of them Went to Party and reached there safely. Ayush got a phone call that one of his friend who don't know where the party is waiting on that State Highway at some restaurant. Ayush Left with a pillion to guide the third friend in the story. but...... But he never Reached there...... ![]() Waiting friend tried his phone as it was only 5 minutes ride far and it was 15 minutes till now.. And by luck his Mobile phone was still active, A Villager attended the call and told him that he met with an accident. 50% of what happened is still not known..pillion escaped with a little injury and recovered in 4 days. Ayush was Unconscious. He was shifted to Indore (about 150kms) on the worst Roads of MP.. ![]() got into the finest Hospital of the city...the CHL..in ICU for about 7 days....and on the 7th day...the thing happened which I never expected to.... That night my friend with my bike phoned me....i didn't heard what he sad..but when he came to my house and said what happened...I was fully shocked.....we both went to the Civil Hospital where both of them were admitted at first. Pillion was shifted to a local private hospital and Ayush to Indore. His father was a Railway Guard and was on his job. When he got the news he got directly to Indore. My father also went there. So Only I was left here. Next Day I went to the Accidental Spot as Only I was here to tackle with Police and All. First went to Police Station and then again to Spot. Lifted his Bike which was about 15 meters far off the road corner. The front was fully meshed up. The Fuel tank was bumped with his lower jaw(Yes..!!! He was without helmet..). Fuel tank and the Parts of DigiMeter Remained were full of Blood and Brake Oil leaked. You might have Imagine the Impact. We came to know by villagers that he was at 90+ and suddenly a vehicle at that banked tight corner came in front of him. He Skipped him but got offroad and road was at 1Meter height. A big Rock came in front of Him and he squeezed that bloody front brake lever and Believe it or not He was in Air and Rolled about 3 times in Air with the Bike..!! And his head smashed into the Fuel Tank about 2-3 times and that was the thing which snatched him. He came again to his home unfortunately without life.. Now, Its hard to imagine what if feels for his parents to lost a child who have not even hit 20. You know what his mother said to his breathless body..?? "Kya tune ek bhi baar ye nahi socha ki teri maa tera ghar par intezaar kar rahi he...???" (Means: "Haven't you thought even once before overspeeding that your mother is waiting for you at home....???") Please xBhpians...always wear your lids..And before leaving on your wheels..remember that someone(Your sister, father, mother or Friends) are waiting for you...!! He was the only son of his Father. Now they are alone. His father now is under financial and economical breakdown due to fees of the hospitals and all.....He moreover lost his only son... I dont know why God does bad to good people.... Ayush never pleased to his Father to buy him RTR but His father wanted his son to have the best. He bought him RTR that too with Rear Disc and Premium Colour(i.e. Yellow...You need to pay 1000 bucks more for it). But not even he had ever imagined that The Dreams he weaved for His son are shattered forever.... That was the day I also Saw my Father Cry for the First Time... From Then Before doing any non-sense Act..I think more than twice for It. I would be adding his damaged bike photo which someone Snapped at Police Station. Rest In Peace Ayush... I have no qualms in accepting that a lot of my riding has happened lidless... I always rode within my limits... fast at times but usually safe.... and it was an unfortunate incident of a guy who considered me as a rolemodel that changed my perception about riding.
I will not go into the gory details of the crash, but all I would say is that when my friend passed away I realised that when I ride, there are people around who at times look and learn from me.... So now I ride full kitted, hoping to see a change in the attitude of people towards road safety! Honestly I was super happy when I saw a LOT of unknown people in my office carrying good helmets and jackets to work! Some of them even approaching me and asking me about the stuff I were, and where do we get them from! Am sure pune DSG has got a lot of customers courtesy me ![]() Here's another incident of an accident on road which changed my outlook as a rider as well... you might want to go through it
