Default Custom Number Plates

I recently came across at an auction which has special single alphabet and heritage number plates. In Australia (and other developed countries) you can get a custom number plate like FOTO (which Aditya, the guy who ride around Australia) has for his R6.

Besides this being a very good opportunity for the government to raise more money for themselves it is a very good way for people to make their vehicles an extension of their own personalities, legally.

I wonder when will something like this hit India.

Check out the auction: http://www.somethingoldsomethingnew.com.au/

In INdia, we will be fined, if the plate is not according to the specification.

something like this is already in india, with regards to numbers. If you want a specific number, then you simply gotta pay around 5k as a donation to red cross, and they issue you a slip, and subsequently you can get the 4 digit number of your choice. ( atleast thats whats available in faridabad/gurgaon, so i can speak for haryana on this basis ).

Using letters as registration is not what i think will come to india anytime soon, since the series system that is in place will have to be completely revamped for this process, moreover certain letters will have to be pre determined to locate the district/state of registration of the vehicle.

I met someone who had a FORD . GT license plate which he bought at an auction for $11000 two decades ago, and recently he was offered $150,000 for it in a car show but didn’t sell it, so you could look at it as an investment.
I almost bought PAJERO for $600 but then I spent that money on suspension. My truck won’t get a custom plate because its all go, no show. But when I get the bike I’ll try to get GASJKIE or something along those lines

The days of 2000 bucks are long gone buddy....

If you need a special number ( A number in series like 1234 or similar numbers like 1111 or a special one like 0007) am sure you will end up paying more than 10,000 bucks

Getting something like this to India doesn't only seems to be difficult but impossible....

Changing the numbering system to alphabetical is very difficult with the huge no. of Vehicles on the Road and the huge no. being added each year...

Hmmm....may be some day some RTO officer reads this thread and who knows the impossible becomes possible......

not exactly i guess... it is based on the funda followed by the state RTOs

there was this article in TOI bangalore where they had given the charges applicable to get fancy number of ur choice...

You'll pay 3 times more for fancy vehicle Nos - Bangalore - City - The Times of India

well they also have the concept of open series and special opening of new series and all

what an idea sirji of making more munny ... btw i heard karnataka rtos charge the max in india towards vehicle registration....
