Default India, bikes and rear view mirrors

This is something that has been astounding me for a long time and I would like to throw it in the group to see what's up with it.

What's with people removing the rear view mirrors from their bikes?

Each and every day I see lots and lots of people driving around without RVMs on their bike, as if they have eyes in the back of their head. (Perhaps that's why they don't wear helmets too, the extra pair of eyes would get covered.)

It puzzles me why someone would want to do that, for me the mirrors give me that little bit of confidence when I take turns or maneuver through traffic. I've lost a mirror some time and it feels terrible to drive even with just one mirror.

And yes, it does seem to be a specific kind of person who takes the mirrors of the bike, but I've also seen it plenty of times with older people as well. So guys, maybe you can help me figure out if these guys have eyes in the back of their head or perhaps it's just plain old regular stupidity?

Hahahah! Nice one!
The guys who remove the mirrors are the ones who ride lidless&feel that the 'wings' are a hindrance in cutting through the traffic.

Some feel, if the rear view mirrors hit something, they have to spend money for them. So they remove them and keep it safe at home.

Na Na Na.....

RVM's are really usefull --- only if you know its usage ... I mean those who are used to ride with RVM's cannot change thier Behaviour...

I've seen many times people Fit RVM's but never use it - perhaps they use it for to Comb thier Hair after a ride....

I've been riding for more than 3 years without RVM's in my City and I've never met with an accident and Never been an Cause for the same...

But i always prefers to Fit the RVM's for Highway Rides or Touring....

It all depends on the Individuals Riding style....It doenst mean stupidity...

You have a pair of eyes at the back, that disappear on highways.

I am so used to the RVMs that I feel handicapped if I ride without them.

i once even wrote a letter to OD suggesting that if the government can make dumb things like saree guard and a forehead sticker like number plates mandatory, then why cant they challan riders for not having RVMs. Make it compulsory. Like helmets.

There are a number of instances that i know and have seen while riding, where the rider had no information whats behind him and simply was swerving in traffic only to have a close shave or an actual incident. Atleast a RVM will make sure the he catches the light of the vehicle behind and is alerted that there is something behind.

I pretty much am blind and feel very uncomfortable if the bike im riding does not have RVMs.

Some little thing I've also notice a lot it that those without mirrors generally are the one who get startled when something approaches them from behind. Not to mention the often seen: "I will go where ever I want without looking"-attitude that comes with not knowing what's behind them. Every time that happens it makes me want to open the throttle and kick the sucker off his bike. However, about half a second later I remember that there's plenty of large buses and other vehicles that they won't see either and those will take care of the job for me.

As far as claims go about riding styles, I don't know, but my experience tells me that unless your head is mounted on a swivel base there's a big chance a person without mirror will not look behind for each time it is needed.

@Thunder: Don't take any of this personal, I'm sure you know what you're doing. I'm talking about the large masses here.

It all came of by practise...
Initially when i started Biking - i started to ride my Bike without Rear View Mirrors(I eventually do not even know that bikes will have a RVM at that time)
After buying a new bike - i found that riding with the RVM's looked somewhat not audible and hence forth i removed them......

But this is not the same scenario with Long Tourings.....because while touring mostly i like to relax myself in some steady speeds so RVM's works better for me in Highways to have a view on the Traffic behind...

Im only telling my experiences.....and Im not insisting anyone to ride without RVM's...
All of my friends do ride without RVM's....It all came by practise...
