Question Maximum Permissible speed limits on NH and SH

hi,

I was wondering whats the maximum speed limit on all the National Highways and State-highways in India. i guess on NH it's 80KMPH. But can someone give me a reference/ link etc for that??
Are all the express-ways that are being made have max speed limit as 80?

If that's the case, how come Government allows the bike/ car manufacturer's to make a bike which can go beyond 100KMPH? a bit confused!!!

though I am not in favor of anything less than a 100KMPH but jsut wondering about the rules here.

any factual answers? No theories please..

I've seen some sections with speed limit written as 120 on NH7 Nagpur highway. Though the same highway has 80&100 boards too.

Yes, and this is really not possible to follow! I mean 50km/hr. on NH-1 is ridiculously slow; 70-80km/hr. is more like what it should be.

From a third party source, but I guess more or less answers the question

Speed limits by country - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Couldn't find anything on NHAI. Their website only talk about user toll and fee collection. Nothing about speed limits.

Any legal experts who can help?

so 80 is the most common thing we can find on various sites/ references etc..
it's high time government do something about this..

increased confusion.. if max speed is 80.. how can government let P220s and all to advertise them as fastest indian with 130+ speed and all..

we should be missing something here...

I think the speed limits are fixed according to the breadth of the highway, like I said on the same highway I found 80, 100&120kmph speed limit in many places!

'think' is fine (NOM)..
but when some SMART guys ask.. Are you breaking the rules by riding at 100KMPH on smooth empty stretches of NH.. what to answer?? any reference of legal limits, I can throw on their faces ..
I can give thoughts to them but only some reference will convince them..
