Default Philip Island. Melbourne Australia.

I have been doing a few trackdays recently at philip island . The track is fantastic and is what you would expect from world class circuit. width of a four lane highway , excellent ripple strips which I found to give as much grip in the dry as the circuit itself, It has a few bumps here and there with makes it even more interesting and a whole heap of brilliant corners and segments.

It is a very very fast track with only 2 corners under 100k's.
One of them , Turn 4 or Honda is a hard braking corner right after you are doing well over 200 k's. its a lot of fun when the back end is wiggling around when you are hard on the brakes. Ive been riding my 2004 zx10 there which has more than enough horsepower to hammer down the front straight . The turn leading upto the straight is really fast as well with long sweeping left hander

the only downside though is that I am going through a rear tyre every 3 trackdays days and a front about 6 trackdays which makes it a very expensive prospect

Here are a few pictures from the track days.

Which one is you in the above photographs? One rear tyre every 3days? In how many kilometres?

Im in the light blue and black leathers with the red and blue helmet. Ive was riding the bike in the black road fairings for a while but put the track fairings on them recently which are green in the last few pics.

I am using a Dunlop GP racer Hard rear which is the hardest treded slick you can get. These last for 3 trackdays and one trackday is 6 x 20 minute sessions. approximately 8 laps per session and the island is about 4.8 k's most of the acceleration is done on the left side of the tyre so the left side is pretty much dead after 3 trackdays or about 600 kilometers all up. Your pilot powers will only last a 3-4 track days as well if you rode them quite hard at the track

Those are the hard tyres as well. Put some soft tyres on and they will be gone in 5 sessions or one day. Unfortunately it s price you pay for grip... I could put some hard road tyres on but I wouldnt be able to crank it over that much or power out of corners

Phew! Pretty expensive. How much approx. do the tires cost there?

I guess the only way out would be trying to get a sponsor/sponsored ride.

But completely moot unless you're really serious...

Neat Cornering, there. And this sport is surely an expensive proposition.

My rear is approximately 300 aussie. and the front is another 300 but thats lasts a bit more. Unfortunately thats the price you have to pay.
