Good writeup Forty6 ! Enjoyed reading it to the max.
I would describe your post as "Politically Correct Sarcasm", the one which even the people on the other side of the fence would appreciate

My encounter with RE - Looking at my frame (huge and with a few extra Kilos - thats the way they describe it these days ), people would say "you will look good on a RE! " But I never liked the bike though, never rode one. I own a Pulsar 180 dtsi- 2004 (From the lot that first came out with new Bajaj logo). My justification for buying it back in 2004 was simple -

180 cc : 15.5 BHP, so
350 cc : 30 BHP ~ ideallly.... but RE had 20......
had heard anbout the 500 cc which had some 22 horses.... hmmm did not make sense, not to mention the price, almost double that of a P180.
+ I had heard and experienced the acceeleration capabilities of a Pulsar, and heard that RE is slow to accelerate - it is an ownership experience, membership to a cult you seek when you buy one, rather than performance figures.

So one summer day in 2005 I was happily riding my Pulsar on eastern exp. highway (Mumbai) near Godrej - Vikhroli. I had zoomed off from the trafic light from pole position and led the pack, after 2 minutes or so I was cruising at 110 kmph and then I heard that sound from behind my helmet -

"Da-ba da-ba da-ba da-ba"

Yes it was a RE, and thats how the new ones sound these days. Could not figuer out whether it was a 350 or a 500 but I saw the rider. The uncle wore a helmet - visorless and wore dark shades inside his lid. He was wearing a kurta and "Veshti" and leather chappals. Adorning a huge metallic watch on his wrist, wind in his Veshti , hands firmly gripping the bar and stuff. Looked like he was attending some relegious ceremony or something.
But he sure knew how to ride his bike, because he did overtake me and seemed to accelerate slowly but steadily.

With a sense to rercalim my pride, I twisted the throttle and opened wide. My pulsar accelerated to 115 kmph very slowly and hesitantly (with my weight, the max it ever did was 120, crouched with wind assistance, downhill acceleration, on the same stretch) but RE was gone, guess it must have reached 130 kmph or something !

I gave up and settled back at 100 - 110 and ready to slow down for the turn I had to make next.

Guess that was my eyeopener for RE !
I still don't love the bikes they make though, not even the classic. But if ever they go the Harley way and create a V-Rod kind of bike, I will just fall for it , no doubt !

The question is will they want to do it, or will RE loyals accept such DNA

cheers!

I agree if you meant Ignorance + Arrogance as not caring...

Damn! That analogy was so predictable... (another predictable one was using the dog barking analogy on to us!)

That bit was Ignorance... and not arrogance...

Arrogance was the above posts!

to each his own, but to me everything.
having said that i did ride a bullet to understand and then wrote. Am fine with someone buying a bullet, if his other choice was a M800. Better to be on a better bike than an inferior car. But a bullet instead of a say p220 or an R15, beats me.

I want a bike because i want to exit a corner faster than i entered it. I can do that with a bullet but not while being on it. Yes it goes to places where other bikes sputter but then that is its only use. On a good road it is very therapeutic at best. But i want an adrenaline rush not a psychiatrist.

What they should do is fit a clip on, firm up the chasis, better brakes and better tyres. that is the only way they will ever entice me to buy one. unless i want to put a gleaming one in my basement as an art deco piece.

I told myself for not commenting on this un-ended topic...but now, i can't control and back up Tilak Soni.

Here is the comparison between Metals and Plastics... After a long 1000 kmts, plastics do tore but metals don't.

It's ok to say that every machine can go anywhere, whether it's 100 cc or 1000 cc, but there is a hell lot of difference in taking 180cc's and 350 cc's.
There you will find to know what actually a BULLET is!!

As per the old engine and technology is concerned, they don't think it should be changed as it is running high as it is. Engines are changed only for other motorcycles every bit and now. Why?? Think!!

Talking of BHP: 180cc gives you 15 bhp, 350 cc shuld ideally give 30 bhp but it is 20. So acc. to you, 900cc should give 75bhp ....huh....which is not true. Honda 900RR gives 125 bhp
100cc activa should give around 8bhp, you can't apply simple mathematics here.

Bullet is a different class all-together which can't be compared with any other. Rest is yours!!

This is a discussion as we are comparing Boys with Girls. Some things are not meant to be compared.
Anyways, nice writeup fotrty6 and you ignited fire in many hearts!! Hope it will increase the sale of Bullet

I am wondering what argument can a Bulleteer start here logically!!

The reason why a Non-bulleteer starts such an argument (if it is the way it is said) is so that in a hope that someday we will have bullets which would make the so-called non-bulleters love bullets.

Any Biker, riding any bikes will have his own respect for a proper cruiser and the thump it has, Even though they might nor prefer it. We just want to see it better that what it is in our country. Changes/Initiatives to correct is what it lacks.

If someone call a BULLET a perfect bike without no issues/hassles, then yes he would fit the 'barking dog' e.g. perfectly. If you say a Bulleteer means handling those issues/hassles than to enjoy the ride, that is the ignorance/arrogance here.. Still there are so many Bulleteers.. shows the biking spirit, which is something to really appreciate. However the classics are the fresh air..
