Well written article I must say, though I will not get into which is better debate because I have ridden an RE too & I must say that the bike was good, apart from the already mentioned Technology & quality of parts. There was word that you would be writing more, bring it on.

Best of both worlds and worlds apart in terms of technology, behavior, 'character' etc. cal it whatever you want to
Love both of them equally.

Comparisons are and will always be made in the future and why is always a Bullet compared to the modern Four stroke singles will always remain a mystery to me.

As you rightly mentioned the Bullet is a tough vehicle to maintain and use.Oil companies thrive on it's engine leakage,and even our traditional Brake Inspectors(buffalo) "fear the thumper".

We own a Bullet 350, Karizma R, ZMR and R15 and here are few thing that I would like to say

1. The discussion of Bullet vs other bikes is a never ending one.

2. The credit for coining words like Japcrap, Plastic Bike, metal bike etc should go to so called Bulleteers. I would say people like these who differentiate bikes on the basic of Jap vs British are disgrace to Bulleteers first/ Biking community. I have seen bikers who define Bullets as a bike which leaks like a sick bitch, one can make how much of a biker is one who makes this kind of statement ?

3. Going to leh,Ladakh and showing how well Bullet pulls the cargo is not Bottom line of biking.

4. Bikers like to ride, which ride they choose is up to the rider either it is Metal bike or Japcrap. RE concept of building classic 500 is for touring and Yamaha's concept of building r15 was to build a machine that is light, faster and give superior riding control. Both achieved their goals in giving India r15 and Classic 500.

5. Reliability of RE Bikes - I would define Reliability = Repairability + Knowledge of the rider. What is point of having a best tech on the bike and when your accelerator cable fails you do not know how to fix it ?

As for me, I will continue riding my Bullet 350, Karizma R, ZMR and R15 as all these bikes are unique and gives me what I want during my ride.

Ohkay i admit you look good on it. Even Nannu looked smart on it. Which is something because otherwise Nannu is the only brother who looks good with his sister. The whole sit straight posture helps you look smart on it. But then think about it, the only way to sit on a bullet is straight. Any other way and the Frisbees in the spinal chord will fly out. No, really someday they will, the shudder form starting it will loosen them over time and then one day "Hello is it the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre. Yes I would like to book an appointment".

And don't tell me it builds character. That's what my Dad said every time i protested at being taken to the Village for the summer vacation. That's also what the slap said when he slapped me for protesting too much. Didn't build anything. I still like boobs.

But still i like it. Not as a bike, but as a thing. Sort of like a controversial opinion. It is an opinion. You can't be sitting on the fence with it. You are either this side or that side with the bullet. I like it for that. I also like it for making you have no respect for law, once you are astride it. It is the frown in "ohh those damn bikers".

It does not have an accent. It has attitude and that makes me think of forgiving my friend for buying one.

P.S: In case you have seen adverts of Bullet, don't believe a word of them. It is not a bike for grown up men. It is for young boys. You have to a boy to love tractors. Or fire engines.

if u ride a toy bike (the japanese bikes ) you will not like the bullet .....
bullet is not steady above 70 km ...what rubbish...

What a write up by forty6 !!! Super liked it..Had a good laugh with dumb founded colleagues around.

I had a similar feeling; in fact me and friends once joked that it need 350 or 500 cc just to carry of its own. However, in my short touring experience couple of places I founds its best to ride. Specially when there is worst road or no road. While Pees, KZMs and puny Rs are saving their asses, the bullet just run as nothing happened. However, once you are back on a decent road or highway, story remains same.

So all in all, IMO its up to the rider which suits him/her better.
