Default Need to win an endurance race? Ride in India!

Thats what this gentleman apparently did and attributes his win in the Hoka Hey Challenge on Harley Davdisons in US!

Read some excerpts from his interview on another website:

QT: Where is home?

WB: That’s a tough question to answer. Right now I am in Florida but I am sort of homeless. I have been working outside the U.S. since 2005, mostly overseas in India and Dubai

QT: How long have you been riding?

WB: I gave up riding at 21 just after getting married. I felt it was too dangerous for a guy with family obligations. I started riding again 5 years ago in Delhi, India where its crazy dangerous but I found I really enjoyed it and had really missed it.

QT: Rumor has it that among your other adventures was riding Royal Enfield’s in the Himalayas. True?

WB: Yes, the last three summers I spent riding a couple of different Royal Enfields in the Himalayas at up to 18,000 feet above sea level. They claim these are the highest roads on the planet. Before Hoka Hey my idea of fun was going out in inclement weather on roads where the maps were wrong. Where you could not count on fuel stops and where there were no hotels. So when I read the Hoka Hey rules I said to myself that it sounds just like what I have been training for.

QT: Did that help you in the Challenge?

WB: Yes it did. When things got bumpy in Alaska it was nothing like riding on road conditions in the third world which I was used to. In terms of road conditions, the weather, elevation there wasn’t anything I had not seen before and in fact it was much better.

So you know the Delhi and Bangalore traffic makes a better rider out of you!

Darn this, this is a blessing in disguise!

@ all my mates who crib about the poor roads and poorest infrastructure of India: Dont crib, this is just a testing ground for the future endeavors that one might face. Feel blessed that we are subjected to such wonderful roads and conditions without actually flying across 7 seas.

All Cheers

P.S: this thread surely is an eye opener. Who knows, one of us might be participating in the same Hoke Hey Challenge just after riding his way from home to his office!! (Laughs out Louder)

No doubt, why people say that: " if you can ride well on Indian roards, then you can ride anywhere in the world"

This is something which has been embedded into us.
Riding on Indian roads full of chaos, improper lane riding, jumping traffic lights, overspeeding on city roads, breaking every possible law and then safegauring oneself and others at the same time is a difficult task.

Apart from this, I believe that India has almost everything to offer.
We have some extremly beautiful roads, some exotic locations, awesome mountain roads, the ghats and sometime Roads which resembles offroading track.

Quite true but not completely. People will be amazed to see new things and the way life goes on in different places around the globe, just like any of us would get awed visiting west. However, riding in India (specially up north) is an experience, only few places in world can match.
