One common solution is to stuff the FFE with Glass/steel wool. It helps, but decreases the performance factor by a margin.

i Own a 2005 Karizma . i just want to remove my cat con without drilling a huge hole from the tip of the exhaust mainly so that exhaust escapes freely and hence engine feels smoother, not bothered about power as bike has more than enough for touring.. whats the actual procedure ? does it require any type of tuning as well ? does bike fail emission tests after removing cat con ?

Please do help me out.

The picture below gives details of the procedure for removing the cat-con from the Karizma's silencer.

The engine breathes easier after this. Not much in terms of tuning needed though the idling air-fuel mixture might need some slight adjustment. There are no issues about the engine meeting up with emission norms. Below is a scan of the PUC certificate issued for my bike after I'd removed the cat-con. As you can see, the CO value was 0.78 (3.5% acceptable) and the HC as low as 309 (4500 acceptable).

I did this at a friend's fabrication workshop. I guess any good outfit that understands welding can do this for you as it is primarily sheet-metal work. Karol Bagh, Lajpat Nagar, Yusuf Sarai etc etc.

Old Fox

Now thats what we call an explanation, a guy like me from Arts background understood it in one glance, some use flowery language to impress and some complicate things for no apparent reason. You did neither but got down to the basics and stuck to the point. Please keep enlightening people like me.

Peace!

Sir, have a doubt. That exhaust doesn't look like the one in stock ZMA. Please throw some light on it

The exhaust is stock. This is what remains after the chromed heat-shield and the gold-coloured top sleeve is removed.
