Default Spark plug mods

A popular mod on Spark plug was the side gapping to let the flame kernel propagate quickly in to the cylinder, to give better combustion of the fuel charge . I am sure Fellow XBHPians will be able to throw more light on this with their Vast knowledge .

The topic that you are asking here is a unusual one.. maybe no one has gone to the extent of determining as to how exactly the flame propogates.

actually i doubt if anyone will be able to throw light except the very few pro tuners/ core engine designers.. all the best for the thread.. i am keeping a eye (and ear nose etc etc ) on this thread...

as far as i know, the side gapping will definately help in the flame propogation as it creates a open space for the flame spreading but what i know is competely theoretical.. let the pro tuners comment here..

Well . . m also a new bee here.. but as far as I know, flame propagation inside the cylinder is affected mainly by the design of the combustion chamber. . . The more the air-fuel mixture swirls inside the cylinder, before the spark ignites the mixture(without quenching the spark), the better is the combustion. But i still did not understand the exact purpose of side gaping the spark plug. . I dont think it will affect the flame front propagation. Well, i would definitely like to see more replies on this.

The flame propagation from the Spark Plug is dependent on ,whether it opens into the cylinder or it is shrouded by the ground electrode.I am using this mod in my KB 100 with good effect. For my car I use NGK BP6ET

Here are some Pic of Bosch and NGK side gapped spark plugs.Three Ground electrode is NGK and the four ground electrode is by Bosch. Both are self cleaning.

They cost between 75 to 130 rupees each, depending on the make.. The NGKs are good .Mainly there is no hesitation while acceleration and both my car and bike idle smoothly. Hence I guess they are working. I also get 0.5 kms extra per litre with my Lancer and on my bike 2 kms extra.
