Default Make 12 V AC regulator

Here is a simple ac voltage regulator as used in KB 100.The circuit is for KB 100 current levels ,for higher currents a high current SCR to be used for bypassing the excess voltage.

Sir, could you please give a detailed description of this circuit?

The IN4007 diodes are only rated for 1 Ampere.. But, I think the current flow would exceed that. And I have still more foolish doubts.. So, please post a detailed description sir. It would serve to clarify my doubts.
