Default fall and injuries

Hello all,

This morning I rode out and had a low side at 6:00 am.
I've sustained skin deep abrasions on knee, thighs, calves and elbow. The knee abrasion looks very jagged and has hole-like and scratch-like cuts into pinker skin. I just hope that there are no complications with it. A simple abrasion is so much easier to handle. It will be 5 hours before I show it to a doc. I've neatly dabbed at it with cotton dipped in a dettol-water solution ad applied an antiseptic cream.

This is the second time something like this happened to me so i started to wonder how many times we bikers fall during our biking lives...

If you have had some serious falls (not accidents involving other vehicles) and road rashes, please do tell me about it.

First of all
Take a T.T injection
You can’t effort to be lenient with this.
And take good care and medication for the wounds, being winter, wounds give a tough time over days.

Everyone sooner or later have this experience. Sometimes it’s a silly, embarrassing fall.

One of the ways we can reduce these falls is by focusing on ride. Most of us switch to an ‘auto ride mode’ and start thinking of some other thing (subconsciously). The more we are in depth of the thought the higher the risk of crash. As said by ‘old fox’ mostly nothing on road comes as suddenly, its that 'we miss seeing it'.

Generally we think of the destination, or that pending, annoying repair of the bike, and many more things.

The Idea is:
  • At starting of the ride (generally morning first ride), get on your bike,
  • Start the engine,
  • And now think of whatever you want and decide that you are going to focus and enjoy the ride. (And mean time the engine oil spreads all over nicely) take like say, 10 to 20 seconds.
And get well soon.

Road burns as they are called... though these may look like just some skin abrasion and nothing serious they can be extremely dangerous and even life threatening... its not that they are just painful, most people tend to forget that the skin is the first and in most cases last line of defense of your body against all infections... please, please, please wear protective clothing... its not for show, it has a definite purpose that is as important as your helmet's... there have been cases where 2 to 3% road burns on the body has led to the person dying from multiple infections... good luck and ride safe...

Sure, I got a TetVac immediately. That's true about the 'auto ride' mode. I was entering a curve at 90kmhr, what was I thinking?! Knee down, leaning off the bike but still not cutting a sharp enough curve. The fall is entirely due to bad judgement regarding entry speed. The divider was approaching me hard, and I had to lean deeper to compensate the understeer. Before I knew it, the foot peg was screeching, metal was moaning in contact with the ground and I was hurled forward, off the bike. I'm not even sure I got anything positive from this incident.

Too true! There's billions of bacteria called Streptococcus Pyogenes which cause gangrene in our atmosphere among other bacteria. they're just waiting to get inside you! It's just your WBCs vs Bacteria after that!

I will definitely back that stance. Protective clothing before anything else! In fact i've just gone and bought myself knee pads, elbow pads and a tough new leather legging.
