Post How do you justify the purchase of a Harley Davidson?

This is one fight that I always have with many of my friends. I am an avid supporter of the brand and the beautiful machines it makes, but am always locking horns with people who complain about their exorbitant prices and apparent ''poser'' value.

Its been sometime since Harley Davidson forayed into our shores and we have begun seeing the occasional Harley cruising down the highway. When it comes to buying cruisers, we have, probably, the best brand in that segment available in our market. But what many potential buyers are turned off by, are the comparatively high prices. But Harley decided to change that and introduced models under the 9 lakh marker too. Yet, I find people complaining about various points like ''lack of technology'', ''only meant for show-offs'', ''pointless'' etc etc. Yes, there are such people, I have met them. They happen to be bikers as well, not just some tom, dick and harry.

So, the reason I have started this thread (hoping I get approval from the mods) is that I want to know from all the Harley Davidson owners on xBHP, about their experiences with the machines. I would greatly appreciate it if people who own other bikes as well to chip in.

What makes the Harley special? How do you justify your purchase?

GBD approved.

Please don't make this unnecessary HD-bashing hotspot. We'll be keeping a close watch on this thread.

@ZeNash - Simple; Love is blind. If you love something, you only look the positive aspects & what other's say goes into deaf ears.

Its not the price that causes sets aback, its also the technology combined that makes HD looks unaffordable or outdated. HD sells a lifestyled product, if one likes the look & feel of it, one buys it no matter what they sell. If one loves performance or don't care much on the life style, then they look for better brands. Having said this, I too love HD, however, their Indian(ised) version of HD is not the same as what they sell in US. Thanks to our Indian Govt for saving me from loan & debts

Well, I'm sure, this might turn into one sooner or later as you may want to recall how this thread turned out - How to Save Harley Davidson

ZeNashB, its a matter of heart. Logical thinking cannot be applied here. Each person has a different taste or falls in love with different things. If not, we all would be riding the same bike and there would not have been so many variations of the two wheeler.

you dont justify the purchase.. you own a harley man!!! you just ride off into the sunset... leaving everyone wondering... lol!!

IF RE is a legacy in India.. so is HD there in the U.S of A, and you cant really justify either!

The V Twins have vibes, the Inlines arent as torquey, the JAP4 are too aggressive for my taste. The Beemers too radically styled. The triumph is ugly. The HDs are outdated.

Dont bother justifying, go for what your heart says!
Every bike has some good and some bad, just like every one of us over a period of time people start loving it.

While our new year ride, we met a RE guy who had a piston change when he left from mumbai, only to have a bent conrod and another piston job in Goa, yet he enjoyed this ride! If it was me on the R15, I would have probably set it ablaze

@ ZeNashnB-
How to justify is like more or less like you love some girl and the girl asks you back why you love her or asking you to show how much you love her and its impossible to justify, same way if i ask you that why you ride a bike which i dont ride its hard to justify.

Do you really think and agree to what the US bikers say like owning harley is a cult and do you agree to their point 100% and again do you think that the HD bought a big time cult in the abroad?

See my fried when the R15 which is merely a 110000/- bike was launched you may have seen people with negative opinion but people who loved the R15 are still in love with it and i am sure many of the R15 or ZMR owners will be getting negative comments about the costly purchase but what matters is your heart melts when you start her and that time you dont care what the world thinks about your bike same is with harley, those who love it will buy it.

No matter what the people with negative opinions talk, finally your heart is happy.

+1^ to Srinath

Storgly agree with his point, i used to criticize the cost of R15 till the day i first rode, but once i rode heart said this is the one, going to be upgrade. Although i still have my pulsar with me, but R15 is the one i am in love with same is with HD.
HD are no-nonsense bike. they give you what you want be it speed, torque (provided you are not intended to crave valleys on public roads), looks, vibes & the feel of being part of cult not just a bike.
