dear moderators,
i felt this can't be merged with the existing thread called "share your creativity" as its not about the modification its some thing post-modification. kindly process this as requiered..

the humble question is
Do fully modified bikes need re-registration?
probably YES...

and for re-registration, validating the modified parts is must, which is not in everybodys' scope.

So what if the significant, major parts are left in stock, the negligible, minor parts are only modified?

please advice and list on what all should not be altered and what all can be modified.

Reregistration means, you're obtaining a new number for the vehicle. This means, APXXX, TNXXX or KLXXX. Assuming that you've changed the cylinder capacity from 98cc to 135 cc & you're going to stay only in AP. So you DON'T need to reregister, you only need to endorse in your RC that, the engine capacity has been increased through RTO.

i see, its OK until i am using a branded validated component, RTA will endorse it.

but what about some thing home (self) made, like say a chopper frame with aesthetic rake angle, bit loud exhaust, obese rear tire and many other odd items?

you don't need re-registration. but legally... you do need the mods to be RTO approved.

again... technically... ANY mods done on a bike are illegal.
but even RTO check points don't really bother with minor mods.

the RTO guys can make a fuss with changes made to the chasis/frame of the bike.

if there's engine work done... they won't really be able to tell anyway.

- loud exhausts are definitely a strict NO NO for virtually any traffic cop/RTO.

- so are super white / blueish headlights.

if pulled over... the colour mentioned on the RC book must match the actual colour of the bike.

RTO/traffic cops can be fussy at times... the main reason u will get pulled over "randomly" is for a loud exhaust.

i've modded quite a few RE bikes... made a lot of changes to the tank...
the forks... the frame... the seat... stretched them out too... even converted a few frames to hardtails.
one of these bikes even has a 300 rear tyre... with a single seat.

i've virtually never faced any issues with cops... yet.

to avoid being pulled over... stay away from two things...

- loud exhausts

- and the notorious left lane (which ends up being full of bikes & u're most likely to be stopped by a cop... coz that's where they're usually waiting.)

stopped is if their is a barricade checking going on or the police have got
some news....

for mods which cant be seen it is not necessary the cops would notice it and
moreover i dont think that they have the necessary knowledge....

i got pulled over at one of these at Bandra on new year's... at about 4am.

i was riding my kawasaki-lime-green P18O... with the R15 fairing et all.

so... this RTO guy asks me for my papers.

i hand him the RC book & insurance document.

he looks at the bike... and at the Ninja sticker... and says, what bike is this?

i tell him all the details about the bike are mentioned on the RC book.

he looks at the word Bajaj... links it with the "Kawasaki" on my tank...

and says "Kawasaki Bajaj"

90 seconds later... i vrooom away.

WOW man, that's a ton of information from highbrows. grateful to all.

my typical plan is to build a RE bullet based chopper with capacity of two seats, soft tail, fat rear tire, and nice rake angle. hope it turns out well.

i feel, apart from the registration advices, i can also avail other ideas and information.

@xionite: please post few of your modifications and stratification of building a chopper.
