I take a deep breath, close my eyes and then press that switch that triggers a million reactions i know not of. All I hear is it singing it's sweet song. I take a last look to see whether she is fed and maintained well enough to undertake the daunting task at hand. With no thoughts in my mind except for the endless road, the countless sights and the limitless experiences yet to be witnessed, I push that throttle without looking back. It doesn't take long before I can feel the wind blow against my face, messing up my hair, that took me 10minutes to get it to stay the way it is.
Going past fields, towns and eventually cities, I see a million people going about their daily lives- The office goers dressed perfectly from top to bottom in their formal wear; the school children with bags heavier than themselves on their shoulders, a water bottle on their hand and that innocent smile on their face; the chai-wala in his shop expertly pouring tea into a tiny cup from a tumbler as high as his other hands can take, I see everyone going about their own mundane, monotonous life. In those moments when you are at a different place and you see a different face every second, I have often felt that my only true companion is my ride. On my transition from a school kid to a college student, friends have come and gone but my ride stayed with me. You may wonder how you can have that kind of connection to an inanimate object. The truth is I don't know - I just do. There is no other song that describes this best: On a long and lonesome highway, East of Omaha You can listen to the engines Moanin' out it's one old song You can think about the woman, Or the girl you knew the night before But your thoughts will soon be wanderin', The way they always do When you're ridin' 16 hours, And there's nothin' much to do And you don't feel much like ridin', You just wish the trip was through Here I am, on the road again, There I am, up on the stage There I go, playin' star again, There I go, turn the page Nicholas Cage said it best when he said, " Your ride is you. You are the ride. Speed is just a bi-product." This was written on the event of my bike covering 50,000 kms. All you riders out there, ride like there's no tomorrow and all that will be left is memories that you will cherish for the rest of your life.
