For me, a scooter is for city riding only. I ferry my family members on my Dio. Do some shopping on it. And don't subject it to anything more. I took it to highway once and it was a painful experience.
Other times i use my 220. If I have some money to spare after I buy a litre bike, maybe I will consider a big maxi scooter. Something like the T-Max or Burgman. But I would want it to corner like my bike and that's why I would rather keep a small scoot. |

For me a scooter should have classic styling at its best....i will buy a piaggio vespa if they launch it in India...it will be a style statement and will look like this

I love riding a Scooter too and the ease of it.. they are not for the thrills that you get riding a motorcycle .. but the fun on the scooter is completely different.. no stress of carrying luggage. loads of storage space.. no tension of rain water seeping into carb/electricals. ease of riding. (Not at high speeds though).
I have actually ridden an activa from Mumbai to Sangli with some (Mum-Pune-Satara-Sangli and back) amounting to some 800 odd kms(including 200kms with a pillion) in a Day. I had gone to sangli to pick up tires for my Yezdi that are very rare nowadays and i got three Tires Hooked onto the activa's rear and peacefully came back home at 4.00am. i loved the twist and go feature. But Riding an activa with the needle Pinned at 75-80 sucks in a huge amount of Petrol. i must have got some 28-32 kmpl or so. whereas on my 1980 Yezdi, at similar speeds i get a beautiful 37-38 kmpl. I hope Big scooters with an appetite to munch miles appear in India, which will encourage long distance Comfortable touring on scooters with a pillion in our Country.

Thats a definite yes! Having learnt biking on a Vespa..I would love to own one. Something like a GTS 300 is definitely a YES for touring with a pillion and some luggage.
Once rode a female friend's activa and it felt so simple that I was wondering "is that all I need to do?" Scooters are regaining their charm and popularity....if only they could bring em maxi-scoots to India!!
