Default Scrapping Footpegs - Good Idea or Bad

We all know that most fun on a bike is around the corners. The adrenaline rush to lean the bike and hit those curves at high speeds is what cuts it for all sports bikers atleast. We all rejoice when we scrape out knees or the footpeg. Isn't it amazing? Just answer a simple question:

If one scrapes their bike's foot peg, does it mean this rider has the required skills of a fast rider OR does it mean that he is doing something wrong? I would appreciate if you could answer it without reading other posts and without googling. Thanks.

"scrapping knees" happens when you take a corner in very high speeds because of leaning to counter the centrifugal force.

"scrapping footpegs" happens in indian bikes, because these are not designed to scrap knees. ever noticed motogp bikes, their footpegs are set very high, so that they don't interfere while leaning or "scrapping knees"

technically, you don't want to scrap footpegs while cornering.

The questions seems to be Pointless.

Do you ever think any foot peg could be designed for SCRAPPING?

May be they are designed to take the impact when an unexpected scrapping happens.

Let me put it straight if you have enough confidence to Scrap your Foot pegs and still on two wheels then its time to move on to a Bike which is designed for Scrapping your knees.

You are right about the last part but the other point in bold - I disagree. Its not a bike's design which makes you scrape knee on them. I have seen several pics of people scrapping their knees on track in Chennai and Coimbatore. I have seen a rider (he was the instructor) scrape his knee on a goldwing - in front of my eyes and the floor board did not touch. He was faster than me and I was on ZX7R and I scrapped my foot peg at one corner (it was banked etc).

In India on normal twisty roads I do not think you should be scrapping either the knee of the footpegs. If at all you do manage to be fast enough, you should still be scrapping knees.

It is not actually. I have seen several articles and travel logs where people were proud of scrapping their foot pegs. Even I was proud of it untill I knew better

Want to use this as an educational thread to discuss this topic.

Oh! I see the error now!

I wrote knee in the yes option. It should be 'footpeg'. It makes the poll confusing. Should;ve checked before posting.

Sorry about that.

MODS: Can you please Edit the poll option 1 and make it
" YES! I will be scrapping my Footpeg next, given the right conditions."

Never managed to get my knee down yet. Scraped my footpegs by accident a couple of times, found the scraping to be more of a disturbance than an achievement.
So, for me, Scraping Knee - Very good
Scraping Footpegs - Not so sure of it.

If the technique is right, you wont end up scraping your pegs.Ppl just intentionally do it.there are ppl who sit almost straight or even lean to the opp. side and yet scrape the pegs!
