I'm getting consistent 45kmpl+ mileage with my r15. The only thing I'm cautious about is I fuel up ONLY in the morning and don't rip hard till about 300-400 meters on a cold engine. Usually keep the tire pressure at 30-35 which is 2psi above the factory recommended so that might be a factor.

I don't ride slow. I'm not suicidal so I don't get crazy when dealing with dense traffic but on every empty stretch I'm 100+ everytime.

Can anyone give me an explanation about the unusually high mileage? Most my friends get 36-38kmpl.

My best bet is my practice of tanking up in the morning.

The 'myth' of refueling in the morning to get good mileage has been debunked by many across the world. It doesn't matter if you own a car or a bus or a truck or a plane

Besides fuel is stored underground and is already at a much cooler temperature than the outside throughout the day. So it is usually pretty down there to really affect mileage.

@Parth: You overinflate your tyres and that could result in better mileage. I too get a slightly higher mileage on my over inflated michelin sirac as compared to manufacturer specified figures.

I even read somewhere that filling up the tank fully in one go is a good practice rather than filling it up frequently. I follow both the things, filling up in night or morning n also fully at one go.N refill it only when there's a small amount of fuel left in the tank. I prefer Shell Super or Speed (and rarely normal unleaded petrol).
I hav been observing a decent mileage, mostly when filled with Shell Super. I I must say Shell is the best.. Extra litres at a bit extra cost is worth.

The little change in the volume of the fuel doesn't matter, since it will be a very little change.
Also, some fuel-stations now show the density of the fuel stored, so it might put the fuel accordingly.

As everybody said it is just a matter of a 2-3 mls, no big deal out of it. Though it will be good for the trucks if they tank up say >100lit of fuel. but still it will be hardly noticable.

Found something related & interested on facebook .

Tips for filling petrol and diesel :-

Only buy or fill up your car or bike during early morning, when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks underground.. The colder the ground, the more dense the fuel. When it gets warmer, petrol expands. So, buying in the afternoon or in the evening, your litre is not exactly a litre . In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature play an important role. 1 degree rise in temperatur e is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperatur e compensation at the pumps .

Another most important tip is to fill up when your tank is HALF FULL. The reason for this is, the more fuel you have in your tank the less is the air occupying its empty space. Petrol evaporates faster than you can imagine.

Another reminder, if there is a fuel truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy, DO NOT fill up--most likely the petrol/die sel is being stirred up as the fuel is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom.

in my view if filling petol at mornings help in 3 ml .... its good as 3 ml gained every time we refil i.e 100 x 3 ml =300ml watever it is it is a PLUS+ ....

however indian petrol rates are sky high so no problem in getting somthing extra ...

Sorry to burst the bubble guys but please do have a look at this

Fuel dispenser - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Since underground tanks at petrol pumps are quite well thermally insulated, the variation in temperature throughout the day is minuscule.

Considering the above fact and the fact that a 30deg variation in temperature causes an increase in Calorific value by 3.2%, It would require an overnight snowstorm for us to gain the 3% in terms of fuel mileage which would bump up your FE figure from 45 to 46.35?

The only thing gained by filling up early morning is time. Since the ever present queues can be avoided. In the saved time, you can work harder, earn more money and fill more fuel

I guess DK should also have something to say about this one.
