Default Race Concepts - CBR250R - now tuned!

The Honda CBR250R has been the most awaited quarter litre motorcycle globally with an unmatched price tag and build quality that is as good as its big brothers. Honda has managed to do a lot of value engineering to keep costs low and yet offer up to date technology. The CBR250R literally shares the same engine configuration as the bigger and meaner CBR1000RR. However in stock trim, the engine lacks poke and begs to be tweeked. Being a global model and Honda having launched the CBR all over around the same time, its anybody's game now to get the best out of this machinery.

After spending 3 years with the awesome R15, I have now moved to the CBR250R with some serious development plans.
Honda has done a brilliant job with the CBR, but it leaves a lot of work to the engineer to take it to next levels. After stripping down a brand new engine, I decided to take up the whole process in stages. Starting off with the intake system to optimize the airflow path and then moving to the cylinder head. The CBR needs a lot of work to make it perform and turn it into a screamer.
Next is the exhaust system that it badly needs and the work is now in progress(we will announce the exhaust soon). My first plan was to make the CBR250R a serious performer, yet keeping the stock exhaust to make it a pleasurable experience for touring and daily commute, along with some good bump in fuel efficiency.
So I did the following mods to turn it into a silent screamer.
*Reworked cylinder head with reprofiled combustion chamber.
*Altered port geometry to enhance flow efficiency
*Modified intake system
*Race Concepts, stock replacement filter

The engine internals are all stock. Cubic capacity is 249cc and we have a lot of plans in store for the CBR in the coming stages.

After a test ride of 800kms (Bangalore - chennai) in under 12hrs, there was not a sign of stress from the engine, even under flat out riding. As expected, the fuel efficiency bump was quite good with 28.5kmpl under full flat out riding and 33kmpl with a slightly milder riding style. There is ample power on demand for overtaking tasks and enough grunt to keep the speedo clicking over 120kph all-day. It was one of my best rides on an Indian bike till date, with the engine performing delightfully all day. I havent been touring on bikes since over 3 years now, but now this CBR ride has kicked me all over.

We are now offering this package as a level one upgrade for the CBR250R. The bikes will need to come to bangalore for the upgrade. This is the ultimate package any tourer can ask for. Bullet proof reliability with thrilling performance.
Expect more goodies in the coming months for the CBR from Race Concepts. The first bolt-on offering will be our Exhaust system and our custom air filter, which will be made available in the next 10 days.

The CBR has a lot of potential and we will ensure our best efforts to extract the most out of the package. Parellely our race developments have already commenced and very soon, we will have a full fledged all-out CBR ready in the coming months. I'm personally quite thrilled over the CBR project and we will let the results speak for itself.

Pls send requests to joel@raceconcepts.in

Dyno plots now updated. Making over 2hp with the stock internals and pump gas. Only cylinder head tweek and our custom airfilter.

EDIT - Our second CBR is now ready with all the above mods and our custom tuned multistage exhaust system. Makes more horsepower than the green machine

i guess more or less it was inevitable that you would end up tinkering a CBR250R . But i am really happy that you are doing that. Please do provide us with pictures and videos of the mods as you provide goodies stage wise. and please do let us know what would be the bump in figure, if one wants to retain the stock exhaust and do a build to get decent performance on a CBR.

Cheers

Was waiting for your report since the news came out last week. Glad to know that it has become better tourer. Expecting more statistical figures from you.

I'm not done with the R15. Infact, its hardly half-way through. My racing developments mostly revolve around that and we are gonna get faster and faster each time. More power with more time spent on the engine .

The CBR is going on the dyno in a day. The dyno chart will be up. Also, from a quick 0-100 comparo, we found our CBR to be clocking a good 2 secs quicker time to 100kph over stock. This is still with the stock exhaust. A stock CBR does around 10 secs to 100kph. The times drop considerably as the speeds climb as the effect amplifies and makes a larger difference, highger up the gears.
Its undoubtedly the best engine in business, even with a KTM or anything around. Its in a league of its own! The engine specs makes it very clear that Honda was in its best mood when they built this motor
As much as the engine is potent, its quite tricky to tap the right power from the engine as everything is optimised quite well from factory. The tuning approach is quite different in comparision with other engines sold in India.
A few things that I noted was, the stock exhaust is very well deisgned in stock form despite running a catalytic converter. There is not much you can gain with a replacement slip-on exhaust like what you get in the market. Most branded exhaust mufflers help under 4-5% on the overall power output.
We will assure a gain close to 10% when the exhaust is finally complete, in the same fashion as what we have achieved with the other Indian bikes.
I'm quite excited over the CBR project myself and we have a lot in store
