Default Road Safety

On the eve of a road safety drive, let me kick off by narrating an incident that happened today...

We met up in the morning for a nice ride to Lavassa city. We = myself, NitroSatya and two of his friends.
After coming back from any ride, our usual spot to laze around is the CCD at Chandni Chowk.

After spendin some time there, I started back for my home and was passing the Scientist's Hostel, on NDA Road...I usually cruise at 65-70 depending on the condition of the road and traffic. At that moment, I passed two riders on a ZMA-R...both collegians, as usual, without helmets. The sight of a 220 passing them must have burnt chillies or what...suddenly I saw a ZMA-R in my RVM, honking...I moved aside and let him pass...it was the same ZMA-R that I had passed moments back...Thinking to myself that these must be in some hurry, I neglected the pass and kept cruising at my usual speed. On approaching the Sus road intersection, I saw them narrowly miss a lady and they turned towards Pashan. I did not exceed my speed and passed them (they had slowed down)...they again passed me...this time a very intimidating move...I was furious but tried to neglect the incident. They were ridin like madmen..cutting across traffic..vehicles and lanes were like slalom cones for them. This passing kept on happening till the flyover opposite E-Square. They missed colliding with an auto...this did not stop them from inviting me into a drag...I honestly felt like pulling to their side and telling them to stop this as they were risking lives of innocent road users.
Finally, I decided to put an end to this...I have always believed that the city roads are no race tracks and there is no use risking yourself and other road users. The ZMA-R rider kept on observing me in their RVM and at one spot they were busy with the traffic and I took advantage of this. I sold them a fake...I turned left at Shivajinagar while they kept going straight.

I knew that on the track, I could have smoked him lock, stock and barrel even with my P150...but somehow, the realization of being a responsible rider kept me from the temptation of smoking him with a burst of the 220's brutal acceleration.

I am sure that many xBhpians must be coming across situations where one is headed for a meet or coming back and then some pesky fellow on a swanky bike sees a fully kitted rider and wants to satisfy his ego of beating the kitted rider. These are the same fellows who proudly proclaim later "I beat the s**t out of a fancy rider on a bakwaas "

I think that if we all adopt some strategies for tackling such issues, it would be of immense help. Can others contribute with all the issues that they faced and their resolutions to these issues?

I think i face this situation every day

well since now as my daijya and Dsg primal gloves constantly pamper my head and hands, i get "challenges" by every freaking modded bike or rx-posers (tumkur has LOADS of rx 100's and 135 and adorned with crazy mindless and hence lidless riders, probably I am the only one in tumkur who wears a helmet (rest who wear mostly do it cause they are going to bangalore) and with gloves its a sight at every signal. a guy said in rather crap hindi that he could beat me at racing anyday with his rather shit like condition (which i observed) rx-100. i simply said "tu toh rossi hai India ka, chennai track mein tere liye torphy rakha hua hai" (you are the rossi of India and there's a trophy kept for you at the chennai track"

well its now a ... test of patience and ignore the fellas (like you're an elephant who goes his way without bothering at the smaller insignificant dogs barking around him ) (no offense to any dog(s) )

of course when it comes to the hills (DD hills) these posers cant keep up with me, i've been practising cornering quite often there and I am better than them, but still not good though.

so i conclude that, its best you pass on a sarcastic remark if you can, and simply go on your own way. keep your standards , and dont stoop down to an mindless, lidless raving idiot who considers himself the rossi of the streets (Mr.Rossi if you're reading this , i humbly apologise)

i downshift and smoke them up .. i dont care if they are riding a rx or a comet 250[yeah you heard it right comet 250]!!! ,,i am sure that i will smoke them and after overtaking them i wave a flashing middle finger at them

i dont know if i am right or wrong but many times i leave few kids who enjoy overtaking a fully geared RTR

Dude, i can say i have no right to say what should you do with your life, but yes spare the others. for all you may hit a pedestrian, another commuter or even a dog. this smoking attitude needs to be controlled. Do not think you're a rider who can do a miracle move and get out of any situation. If things can go wrong they will.

I assume you're of my age =< 19 , since with more years this feeling usually wears off. This "smoke the other" usually is the hottest in these years where the young blood can boil at the slightest provocation.

This thread reads "Road Safety" which is for everyone on the road and not just you, you may be wearing full riding gear, but that aunty crossing the street with her vegetables doesnt have any protection. Think and stop yourself.

Im not telling you off but i've seen enough of things going horribly wrong for the smallest of reasons.

street racing is for , if you have the skills show it at the track and gain respect, you arent going to get any medals for doing a signal to signal "OMG" race ..

No hard feelings here, but since you're already sensible enough to wear riding gear, be more sensible and try to control this feeling.

Tell me about it, I have been dealing with these people like nobody's business...

They come in all size and packages.... A lot of my riding happens in the Highways and on the twisties in ghodbunder... I have a different strategy based on the type of roads...
On Relatively Empty Highways:
I smoke the hell out of them and stick to a constant speed usually 100.. knowing well that they can catch up....So I closely keep an eye on them on the rvm, and once they catch up.... I speed up with the remaining juice.... They try hard to beat me.... and then, I simply let them 'win'.... trust me 9 of 10 guys will keep on going ahead like crazy while you can comfortably go back to your cruising and disappear
At worst when I see people trying to play a cat and mouse game, I simply wait and pretend to have got a call or stick to a ultra low speed to pi55 them off...!

On Twisties:
There is a new breed of Posers in town now (Technocrat, please note) they are with a helmet... sometimes a flashy 'off roading' helmet (i.e. a helmet which has been offroading) or something that looks like a tea cup gone bad! and a cheap Raa-Ben aviators under them.... (Ray Ban in chinese-Gujrati or something)...
For them, I wait for a turn and then I dont look back... Just a tip, Stay away from them.... they will try and lean and can be very dangerous because of the lack of grey matter to judge a turn.... When I see them... I simply move into a different lane.... and in a different speed zone altogether....

At worst I wait for a good turn and then Repeat Step 1!

On City roads, Signal to signal race and all:
Tip to identify them, Just before the signal is about to change, they make funny throttle sounds... look at them.... and YAWN Get into a race crouch .... and ride slowly... if possible wave them a bye bye when they over take you

@Xenologik--
the age factor you have mentioned is 100% true ,,
but at this age if some tries to over do it in front of me..y should i just leave him

yeah if he overtakes me when i am crusing then its 100% fine ,, but overtaking and then slowing down again slowing is not compartable with me ..
hope you understand ..
