Hi all,

For improving my knowledge, i would like to know whether their is any difference when a disc brake is fitted to left or right side of front tyre. Is their any advantage like such?

Yes there is.
If the disc is on the left, the bike will pull to the left and if its on the right, pulls to the right. LOL
Its just a personal choice. Some makers havee their own style.

Well ..... there is a theory that, on a one sided disk bike, if we brake real hard, then the brake force on the single rotor will result in uneven force on the two forks and the bike might veer!!

I'm not claiming it, just mentioning. I even remember this being discussed on some Zma thread on xBHP long time back.

I have personally owned and ridden a left sided one (Hyosung Aquila) and right sided one (ZMA), but cudn't find any difference.

As already mentoined above, maybe its got more to do with form and company design policy than function !

But I've noticed one thing though, among all the bikes with single sided disk, the cruisers have it on the left and the sports bikes on the right. Bullets, Aquila have it on the left side. So does Yamaha drag star XVS650, some Vulcans and some Harleys. While sports bikes (Ninja 250) on the right.

Even bikes from the same company differ, Comet has it on the right side, Aquila on the left. Harleys on the left, Buells on the right !

Anyone has any idea why the left sided disks on the cruisers ???

Comet and Aquila both have them on the left.. so comet is a cruiser?
What about the twin disc bikes... they have split personalities?

Most of the first disc braked bikes had the brake on the left, eg Honda CB750 69 (first production bike to have a disk brake), US spec Yam RD350/400 (US), our Fury 175 etc. I can recall only these three from my limited amount of RAM. And all these bikes had caliper ahead of the front fork.

There are no much differences about the Disc kept in the Left side or the Right Side - it matters - whether there is a Disc......!!!!!!!

1000cc Bikes has Two Sided Discs - to give more Grip and to Bite Effectively - But still the Rear Disc will be single sided......

It means that it doesnt matter whether the Disc is in Right or Left ----- there are no major differences.........
