For carb tuning, spark plug is good enough!

what if i opened up airbox cover on my fz & make mixture rich using af ratio screw on the carb only(mikuni bs -26) ,can it run ok ,
if you have seen the air box setup on fz under the seat , there is no place for good amount of air to go in ,even intake sound changes when u remove the seat and revv it

You will not get any increase in power by just removing the cover. Besides, if you remove the cover, the whole purpose of having a filter is defeated since the carb will be sucking in air directly!! Have you opened up the airfilter box and seen the setup?

^+1

the stock air filter is designed such as to allow minimum amount of dirt to enter the engine .
if you remove the filter snorkel there will be a change in sound because of the change in flow path of the air . you will not be gaining any performance by this.
just running an extremely rich mixture for no reason wont give you anything too .

Hi Guys .. I came across this thread today .. I have little knowledge about bike modifications and i found good information here in this thread. I have a 2003 CBZ Classic with 23000 km in the odo. I have kept the bike idle for 5 years from 2005 to 2009 as I was out. I started riding it again from 2009 itself. The condition of the bike is good. I did some small changes to it myself .. I changed the stock plug to NGK iridium, modded and changed the airfilter to K&N and also put a original split-fire cable as the stock one got cut .. .. Anyways, I did not do upjetting or exhaust modification as I don't want to loose the beauty and reliability of my classic. I also changed chain spoket set with a new stock one and the clutch too. Cleaned the curb myself and adjusted the tapit by an mechanic here at Kolkaka. Am good with the power delivery of the bike as I am not into speed run or stunting and mainly use the bike for weekend trips of 150-250 kms around Kolkata.

I am facing few problems with classic recently and seeking for your help here.

1. The stock lights are really poor and want to do something with it. I have few options but need your help in terms of finding the best suitable. Options are:

A) Change to HID - Cost is not the factor, but there are issues associated with it .. I need to convert the electrical to DC. Need to put a 9AmpH or 14 AmpH battery and for that need to alter the existing battery case. Also for charging the battery, perhaps needs to change the power direction from magneto to battery and headlamp. As for the existing setup, 2 points go to the battery charger and 3 points for the headlamp. Simply switching it won't help as it is not plug n play setup. If I don't do this, the battery will drain in couple of hours.Though the wattage consumed by HID is 35 but switching it on and off couple of times will choke the battery to death.

B) Change the magneto to generate more wattage so it can power 55/60 or 90/100 halogen. But there is no available plug n play magneto in the market. Only option is to rewind the coils. The issues associated to this is, it has to be done by a experienced electrician... for this perhaps 40mm gauge copper wire is suitable but am not sure. Currently, 34mm gauge copper wire is used for the coils. After the rewinding, I have to change the entire electrical as I don't think 7 year old wires are capable of handling the extra load. The biggest problem for this entire staff is finding a good auto electrician to do the entire job. I can start doing this by myself but perhaps it will take me a year to complete the job... So, If anyone has any idea of an good auto electrician and mechanic, Please let me know.

2. My second problem is, after fitting the K&N, the engine has become lean, generating excessive heat and I am not able to fine tune it .. Need someone to help me fix this quickly otherwise it's gonna hurt the engine a lot.

3. Third problem is, both of the rims has some little bends .. and I am not able to find a good mach to fix it ... and it's also causing the fron disk to get a li'l jammed and sometimes given trouble to breaking too.

So friends these are my issues .... I know there are experience ppl here and expecting the reply from the gurus here .. Thanks a lot ..
