Default Untrue

I don't feel this is entirely accurate and people who write articles such as this must not write based on friend's experiences and hear-say.

I ride a pulsar 220 and it was completely stock until today, I had bought an extra large kn filter, iridium plugs and plug wires.. totally it costed a little over 4k. But believe me I CAN feel a difference in the acceleration of the bike, I don't know what difference a dyno will show but I did feel the bike was quicker and I'm not misled by the extra sound. That's the only thing I didn't like. That horrendous noise like an obese red Indian farting or like a Honda Dio...both are same!

The key is not to expect much and you will surely find some gains which only the person who rides the bike regularly can feel. These mods are the first step in my quest for more power. Perhaps in a month or two I will visit Joel and get some serious mods done. But all the same one cannot term these beginner level mods as useless.

peace!

RogueRider,

Can you post some pics of the K-N filer assembly?
Wan't to know how it fits.. or whether it kind of protrudes out?
Also, what is that you comment abou the sound ? Exhaust note got changed due to air filter?

I myself am planning to get a K-N for my P180(2004) and want to know about the issues (if any) beforehand.

Cheers!

The kn filter i bought was bigger than the normal one but there was alot of space left even after installing this filter. I could take a pic but it beats the point as my bike is not the same as yours, the mechanic removed the stock airfilter with its box. I think if I clean it once in 3 months it'll do just fine. It doesn't protrude at all.

The exhaust note may not change but there is quite an increase in the noise from the air filter as more air is being sucked in.Don't worry it's not that loud and if you want it extra quiet you can fix the kn filter in the stock filter box.

peace!

K&N are more porous than stock OEM filters. It means the K&N can allow more larger particles in to your engine which will grind your piston ,rings and bore leading to early loss of compression. The best filters have been found to be Paper filters which at worst may clog but will not allow large dirt particles inside your engine. OEM filters are the best. The OEM filters are designed for specific Engine and must comply as per ARAI certification.

DUDE IS THIS A JOKE????

i am personally using a k&n and have had no problems whatsoever. if the k&n is not fitted properly, dirt escape in from the sides but never through filter.

if this was true then i would have had a damaged carb long time ago.

the k&n simply increases the effective surface area for dirt colection and hence requires lower air pressure to allow air thru it.

Default K & n

No this is no joke...Have you ever wondered why even a $100,000 cars do not fit K & N as standard ?Have you ever heard of a top end Ferrari or Merc or Porsche using K & N or any air filter design like K & N. F1 cars are all about packing as much performance as possible at less weight and space. They also strip down or junk engines which cannot give best performance. None use
K N. Getting more air alone into the engine is not the criteria. THE AIR MUST BE CLEAN OF DUST. That's why we call them AIR FILTERS. Hold a new K N to a strong light and see ...you will see tiny holes through the cotton fibers.

Goodluck getting a reply from them, they don't give a rats rear about one guy sitting in India, asking questions. They've plenty of loyal customers and patrons who'll keep their business going for many more years.

Someone had asked me for a pic of my kn filter fitment
