Agree. BMW should not forget that Japan is one of their biggest markets for their cars too - the ad is kinda anti-Japan, so if the Japs take it as an insult to their nation, the episode will end up as a management book case study under 'what not to do in advertising'.

I think it's just crazy. They'd lose out on a potentially good market.

Like they say, Germans are engineers while the Americans are marketeers. Germans should stick to what they do best - make perfect automobiles... They should leave all advertising to their American brothers!

dame desuyo

as others have said, this might backfire, and that won't be a good thing in these times..... the bike I believe is a killer machine though.... whether it is able to break the stranglehold of the japs on the inline4 litreclass superbike remains to be seen....

BMW has always been aggressive. They are the bad boys of the German automobile companies.Like Lamborghinis of executive saloons. Those of you who have gone through their ads would notice that the Bavarians are not exactly......how should I put it...meek. They dont spare their brothers and you expect them to spare the Japs.
It's just a bold piece of advertising, typical of BMW.

Although the S1000RR was developed/priced to directly play with the 1000cc monsters from Japan, if BMW goes thru with this ad campaign, I think it may be a lil too aggressive. Ofcourse, all depends on the final wordings of the caption/text.

Reminds of the infamous saying before the Titanic set sail on her maiden voyage, "The Titanic is unsinkable....'
