What is your status in the US? If you give that, maybe we can help you out.

Depends whether you have been residing for more than two years. If that is the case, then getting a bike imported on TR basis is a definite help.

It can be done, but its a complicated & cumbersome process with our customs department. This topic has been discussed here many times. Anyways, do have a look at the following threads to get some general ideas:

Bringing bikes to India

Need help Plz

I have been planning to pick a 600 cc use it here and get it to India when I return. Not sure if thats a good option as its 200cc less than the 800 cc limit.

Also if have bring the bike under tranfer of residence, how long can I keep it without paying the taxes or custom duty.

Gentlemen, under 'Transfer of Residence' you bring in the bike, pay the custom duties and fees etc and clear the bike from customs and go register the bike at your RTO under your name. You then must own it for minimum 2 years after which only you are permitted to sell (if you wish).

If you want to only bring it into India temporarily, its called CARNET and you are allowed to keep it in India with the foreign numberplate for 6 months (which can be maximum extended by another 6 months in special cases). After that you & bike MUST leave India. If you then plan to keep it in India, you will pay full applicable customs plus some other penalties etc.

As I mentioned in post# 5 in the links there is reference to one of the people who imported it from USA. Also, your best bet is to contact a local customs clearing agent who can give you the exact nature of documents required as well as the all the duties and other govt fees.
