Default Story of my little Ashley - IRON 883

It is a story which started more than a decade ago. It was the times when Internet shopping just started in India and there were just handful of shopping websites. One of my initial shopping included a scaled down model of a Harley. This was the first time I got introduced to the brand "Harley Davidson". I still have it in excellent condition with the box. Here is the pic:

I happened to visit Kualalumpur, Malaysia last year. Was a busy trip and I missed climbing up the Petronas, but did find some time for window shopping in Petronas which also had a Harley showroom. It was the first time I saw a real Harley so close .

I got really interested after knowing that something will soon be available in India and that too within 7-8L. I looked into Harley India website and there was no showroom in Bangalore . During last December, I saw that the showroom is now open and also came the news about CKDs. I quickly jumped to see the bikes and to my surprise there were no CKD models on display. That was not a dampner as there was a 883L along with Nightster which was sufficient to feel the riding positions. After some deliberations, I did the booking for Iron, which scored more points because of GC. Booking amount was 50K. I immediately changed my desktop wallpaper to her and started the wait .

The wait continued for 3.5 months with some surprise delays in between due to Union Budget announcements about CKDs (at least this is the official reason for delay). It gave me enough time to arrange the rest of money. I went for my own finance (personal loan ) and everything was set. The final bill came to around 7.66L excluding the Insurance. I opted for Oriental Insurance instead of ICICI and did carry forward my NCB (no claim bonus) of old bike. I was able to save 10K here.

The wait paid off and I got to know that my bike has arrived. Left office early to have a fist look of her on 9th April. Here are few snaps:

Went again on 11th April when the Bike is almost ready. Here are more pics:

Sat on her for the first time to check the handle bar position adjustment:

Here is the video when its switched on during the PDI:

The final delivery date was fixed for April 15th.

(To be continued...)

Congrats!!
I got to see this bike on road in Madrid and it looked stunning!
I am getting so tempted to get one, but will have to wait to even accumulate the down payment amount

It was a busy Friday where I had to finish my work quickly and go to the showroom for the delivery of the bike. I was informed that the time of delivery would be around 2:00 pm. Reached the showroom at around 2:30 and saw that the bike is ready. Took some time to finish the documentation and went through the whole checklist. The guys there were very patient to answer all my questions. I got a surprise that the 2011 models don't come with security system and is an extra accessory .

Almost after 2 hrs I was finally ready to go. The tank was pre-filled to the maximum and I can straight away ride to my destination. I started with the bike, and engaged the first gear with the "thud" and here I go. It was a different experience with many people showing "super", "thumbs-up" which reminded me that I was riding an exotic bike . There were few reminding me that the headlight was on . I reached my office soon, but was skeptical about the weather. It was cloudy and was afraid about getting my bike dirty on the first day and it just happed. It was a surprise rain and the roads were wet. I waited for the rain to stop, but still got dirty. However, there was lovely cool breeze which made me forget about it and clean the bike till 12 in the night. Here is the pic of bike parked @ home:

It was quite difficult to push the bike inside the home. I had prepared a DIY ramp from old wood I had.

Next day morning, did a ride to my mom's house and my parents were very excited. Mom, Dad, Bro, Kids enjoyed the ride.

Did pooja of the bike and distributed sweets.

These were the days I can never forget in my life and enjoyed the every moment of it.

(To be continued with my first long ride...)

Thumbs up

Finally it is here.!!!!

Really dig the seats. How is it? Comfortable enough for the rider and pillion? If I may suggest get a back rest too. And please get a blacked out engine guard asap. Very essential.

On another note do the RVMs hinder or brush against the hands when engaging the clutch or throttle?

Congratulations and enjoy your li'l ASHLEY.

BE SAFE and RIDE HARD.
