Default Need advice urgently on buying a Honda CB1000R

Hi!

All of you guys - especially the ones with liter class bikes - I would hugely appreciate advice from you guys on my problem:

I own a Ninja 250R.

I went to a Honda dealer today to take a look a the 2011 CB1000R and instead came across a bike that he has had on display for about 3 years now - a 2008-end model.

Apparently Honda forces dealers to have at least one 1000R or 1000RR on display at all times - even though a dealer may not be able to sell a 1000R / RR in as much as 2 years' time... (that's what the dealer told me)

It looks completely clean and still has no more than a 100 km on the odo, and the dealer says that he will offer me a big discount just so that he can sell the bike, which is losing value parked in the showroom.

To put things in perspective, the new CB 1000R costs 9,70,000 INR (ex-showroom) and I am now being offered this 2008 bike at 6,00,000 INR (ex-showroom).

I expressed some concern about the old battery and tyres and was immediately told that the dealer would fit a brand new battery and tyres. Warranty will start from the day of sale.

I'm in a bit of doubt now: new one or old one? If I buy the old one, am I missing out on something? Is there something else I should confirm with the dealer? I need advice. Please help!

Thanks!

3.7lks off on the ex-showroom itself? Did the dealer qoute you the price himself or did you negotiate? I am quite sure that the price might come down even further. There are two schools of thought regarding buying such display bikes. Some say that the engine never really performs to its optimum potential while others feel that it wont be a problem. I have personally felt the loss of character in such display cars a couple of times when my friends bought such vehicles, cant say about bikes.
If the dealer has had the bike for almost 3 yrs now and 100kms, he should have serviced the bike at least twice. Please check with him if has done so. You might wana change all fluids too along with the battery and tyres if you go ahead with this bike

its almost 4 lakhs off the regular one. nothing comes free. in your case the 4 lakhs comes at a slight risk. you are going to go for it apart from the little risk, you are buying from the authorized dealer with warrenty, ensure that it is a company warrenty and not a dealer warrenty so that any defect / parts replacement is done free of cost. but some spares of your model may not be available. caution is the word.

my advise go for the new bike only. generally nobody changes liter class bikes by the month or year, means you use it at least for about 5 years. if that is your case, go for the new bike only and forget the discount you get for buying an used bike. sometimes the gain may go in a singe major repair.

I got my Gsxr in a similar situation. I bought a 2008 model. I bought it for 2 reasons, the dealer told me that the bike was in a box till six months before and the bike was never started and no petrol was ever poured into the tank. The bike was first started infront of me.
I wouldn't have bought the bike if it was a floor model or had miles on it sitting that long. 3L is a lot of savings but I would go with peace of mind when spending >5L on a bike plus you get a new model.

Either way all the best for your decision!!

The bike is not a test ride piece - just that it's been on display for a while. I negotiated a bit - not too hard - to come to that price. The initial quote was substantially higher.

The bike has not been serviced. It HAS been driven around a little by the owner's younger brother to see that the engine stays in running condition.

I intend to have the fluids changed. The dealer has already agreed to give me a new battery and tyres - both with Honda warranties.

I know what you're saying.. The same thing has been weighing on my mind. However, spares of the model are available - I've checked. The warranty is a Honda Warranty, not a dealer warranty.

I guess you're right. However, I'm in a bit of a quandary because, let's face it - it's a massive drop for a bike that's pretty much in mint condition.

Sunny was kind enough to suggest that I should approach the issue with caution and clear it with the Honda corporate office first, so I'm holding on for now and planning to go that way.

Maybe the dealer is honest, that is possible too. A Legal litre class that undercuts many grey 600's, that too with warranty? But as they rightly say, there's less market for such bikes.

But let me tell you one thing clearly- if it has around 100 kms on odo, its definitely used for test rides. Some Sbk customers I know in Xbhp got their bikes with 00 kms on odo. Get it serviced even if you want it. And secondly, ask the dealer for a test ride first!

I still believe you should go for it, but while purchasing it, go with an already Honda Sbk owner, preferably someone from Xbhp.
Get all the bills, documents, etc. and you can forget about problems. If you have a proper valid bill, you're as good as any other customer, and you get all the rights that others get.

I sold my 1.5 yrs old Samsung INNOV8 Mobile back to Samsung itself, on accusation of bad quality, for 55% of its cost, just because I had a piece of paper called "Valid Bill". A Valid bill is like your weapon against corporate cheating.

But the question is, where are you located? And which Honda dealer is this?
