Default BMW Motorrad: by Deutsche Motoren, New Delhi!

In India, when we talk about BMW, one thinks cars. This idea may soon begin to change.

When I first met some of the BMW Motorrad bigwigs in the summer of 2010, a big moment in my life, they took a few decisions realising the growing potential of real motorcyclists with genuine enthusiasm combined with expendable incomes willing to spend on bikingdom. There were thoughts about how many people would buy, would it be sustainable to have a subsidiary, would there be a dip in sales curve after the initial euphoria, planning of after sales since motorcycles require far more technical backup and knowledge than four wheelers... fatuous questions that generate more heated debate than produce real results. BMW Motorrad made a smart move of introducing their motorcycles through a couple of dealerships and three outlets in India to gauge public response.

The bikes were chosen. The numbers were decided. And the ball was set rolling. The dealership chosen in North India is our very own Deutsche Motoren.

Currently there are three bikes on display for the past four months. And bookings have been thrown open.

BMW Motorrad

S1000 RR

Creating waves in the motorsport world by this demoniac monster from BMW Motorrad is a gross understatement. Cutting edge asymmetrical lines with bleeding edge technology, incredible roadgrip with fantastic handling, an acceleration so fast that it is best you consult a heart specialist before straddling on... this bike is surely one of the hottest objects of desire in recent years!

999CC, close to 200Bhp redlining @13000rpm with power-weight ratio at more than 1, traction control, ABS, engine map modes, dry weight at 183kilos... one can go on and on and on!

The Japs have been beaten at their own game. The Formidable s1000RR. In Superbikes, there is no motorcycle to beat this one today! None!

K 1300R

This is easily one of my favourite motorcycles... a Naked... the K1300R! This high performance Naked requires Raw control and will power from the rider to keep in check the adrenaline rush that this bike brings on with its 173Bhp and 140 Nm of Torque!!! The top speed of this one exceeds 290 kmph in controlled situations and often surpasses the performance of other acclaimed sports superbikes! Look at the cuts in the meaty muscular lines, the true look of a stallion... this bike looks stands out with its neat clean sharp-edged looks. This is not a bike that looks discreet. It does not even want to. It simply dares you to look at it... draws you towards it... and you are drawn towards it... the attraction does not stop there!

Check out the adjustable front mono suspension, the raw looks, the cutting proportions the embossed BMW logo on the clutch cover, the twin spar frame, stainless steel exhaust! And you just have to wait to hear the exhaust note! Keep a set of tyres ready. Coz this beast is not the kinds that you will be able to take out on a easy ride to the market to buy vegetables!

The 1200 GS

The ultimate BMW Legend!

The Iconic bike with a cult following arguably stronger than any other motorcycle, the German boxer engine engineered by BMW with lasting durability of flawless riding for over a million kilometres, the BMW Motorrad manufactured 1200 GS has landed on Indian shores!

This 1170CC flat twin makes 120Nm of Torque @ 6000 and outputs 110Bhp @ 7750 and can cruise effortlessly with pillion and kilos and kilos of luggage at 200+ kmph! If you are a tough biker, this bike is tougher than you. Cruising interminably on highways, taking all kinds of terrain, tarmac, rubble, dust, dirt, slush, river crossings, it can even climb stairs with elan and ease and make it look like child's play.

Deutsche Motoren, Mathura Road, is taking orders for all these three motorcycles and all motorcycles at 1000 CC or above. And that also includes the 1600GT, the R1200 R though they are not yet on display.

Depending on the choice of colours (or bikes), they have a delivery period of 6-12 weeks. Bikes are delivered with registration, insurance and a trained and reliable service back exclusively for BMW Motorrad at Deutsche Motoren. They are also offering theory and practical classes to all customers of Motorrad to familiarise riders with extreme riding stances, power delivery and handling characteristics. Possibilities of finance options are also being worked out with BMW Financial Services.

For all further queries, potential customers may call Mr Sarabjeet Singh at Deutsche Motoren who is heading sales of Motorrad at Deutsche Motoren.

so in which price bracket does the s1000rr sit? I suppose it will be a notch above the japs and similar to the rsv4 and 1198. Or is it anything different? Man these bikes look crazy

Seeing international prices @*€15000, I presume ex-showroom prices to be around 19L. It is best to ask the person in charge, Mr Sarabjeet.

nice pictures. I saw s1000rr in Italy and liked it very much, the ergonomics were good too and seemed to be reasonably comfortable(comparatively). Had dreamt of buying it(had I saved enough money), but the atrocious pricing by BMW India has left me shocked and angry.
What explanation has BMW given (if any) for such high pricing in India? It is less than $1500 dearer than the R1 in the U.S.
