Talking The Story of my MIGHTY BLAZE (First Yamaha FZ-1 in New Delhi)

My craze for bikes goes way long back into my family history. The memories are so old, I cannot even trace the first instance of my attraction towards a bike. What I recall is the people running behind me over the entire house trying to get the bike keys back. Over here I am talking about late 80’s (87-89) when I was probably 2 or 3 year old kid. My mother tells me, If lunch was to be served for me it meant sitting on my uncle’s bike and eating it peacefully while making roaring noises.

Being born amongst the people who would only talk about engines and their roar, I guess the biking DNA was inborn in me. My chachas probably owned all the bikes launched during that era starting from Honda CD100, Shogun, Yamaha RX-100, 135, RD-350 and also an imported Kawasaki ZX-7 during late 80’s and early 90’s. But with their growing responsibilities during the course of time their passion faded away and so did mine due to the lack of support.

I started to recall the craze and the lost passion during late teens. Then the only thing I would dream of is owning a Hero Honda CBZ and fighting with my parents to buy me one. After constant nagging over period the answer was always a “NO”. My uncle got to know the story and when I came to 10th grade he gifted me brand new fully loaded Pulsar 180!!! This was a surprise gift for me and against the will of my Dad. It was only after couple of months that I actually got the keys and could drive the bike. After I met couple of unfortunate small accidents in a row, the bike was taken away in the second year of college and a 4 wheeler was handed to me. The bike was even sold off without my knowledge and consent. At that point I made a resolution to myself, I was going to save money and own a super bike. I had opened a fresh bank account which was not known to my parents and the pocket money that I would save would go every now and then for the sole purpose of buying a super bike.

Near to this new year(2011) my dad’s friend was willing to selling his Hayabusa at quite low prices. To my surprise dad being mesmerized by the low prices showed willingness and I took a test drive. It was later that we discovered that the bike was under DRI scanner and was imported illegally, so the idea was dropped. But it was then when it started again. In my mother’s words in hindi “bike ka bhoot firse par gaya hai iske piche”. My bank account showed me much of money, which would easily get me sports bike.

Suddenly, I found myself in touch with my Chacha who had planted this biking seed in me. We started looking for deals, from old R6 to CBR’s to MT-01. However unsatisfied with the idea of old bikes we decided to look for new one. Our quest took us to Honda, Suzuki and finally to the Ducati showroom. After the disappointment of no sales and closing of showroom of Ducati we were referred to a newly launched bike FZ1 from Yamaha.

The bike was not on display and seeing my willingness, the showroom owner arranged a specially access to the factory warehouse in Noida, where I could see and feel the bike. However to my luck, upon arrival in the warehouse apart for the thousands of bikes standing in a line all I saw about 15-20 boxes all brand new CBU's and the entire display collection of Yamaha Bikes (FZs, R1, R6, MT-01, MT-03 etc etc). Apparently these were all promotional vehicles and only for display. Apart from the above they also had Yamaha ATV's, Cruiser Bikes and the famous M1 (Copy of Valentino Rossi MotoGP Version). It was one of the happiest days of my life. I was running around like little kid who’s out of control, hanging from one bike to another. And at that point the only thing coming to my mind was to come up with a plan to rob that warehouse.

The guy opened two FZ1 boxes for me, a white and black. And it was then when I realized that my next bike is going to be a FZ1 White. After a time of 10 days and getting the finances settled I booked the bike with complete payment and was due to get it the next day. However due to lack of communication between the dealer and company, all the bikes had been booked and Yamaha was short of White FZ1’s. I was later informed that there is a production delay due to Tsunami in Japan and the entire production had been held.

Only after a wait of almost 70 days and a lot of jazz and drama between me, my dealer and Yamaha senior officials I got the delivery of bike this Wednesday, 29th June. I had my friend drive me to the showroom as I was too nervous and excited too drive. My heartbeats were skipping almost every second. The day started at 11AM with starting of PDI and official road registration which ended at 2PM. To my dismay the gods still wanted me to wait as it was raining heavily here in Delhi. As the clouds calmed down I finally took the delivery of my bike at 5PM.

The bike was huge and I could feel the need of the monster beneath begging me to unleash the power. However trying to control my own hunger and tame the beast, I put it in the first gear and slowly raised the speed. Within seconds I found myself cruising at 90’s in the 6th gear cutting through traffic like a hot knife cuts butter. After a couple of pictures at my friends house, we headed for a evening celebration passing through the famous India Gate where the monster made sure that the heads turned around and made a way for the raging beast.

I reached home back at 1AM in morning the MIGHTY BLAZE was locked into the cage and was to be unleashed the next day. This was my dream….my passion….my Junoon. I could finally say I have 150 horses between my legs. I spent the entire day with just 1 meal, a glass of water and 2 hours of sleep. This as far was the happiest day of my life…no words can express the joy.

I at last would like to thank xbhp and xbhpians who helped me frame my decision and for keeping the passion alive.
