Talking Resale value of Superbikes

Hi Fellow riders!

Who doesnt want to own a super bike
Everybody including me does!! But i am in a situation where i have to choose between a Car (for family reasons) and a Superbike ( For my reasons :P ). I can definitely afford only one of these for now.

So i get this brilliant idea. I could buy a Superbike and Go for a car plan from my company to get a car. The car plan is simple. for 3 years company will lease out the car to me, and i have to pay lease amount (like EMI) at the end of lease period i get to buy the car from company for whatever amount is left ( actual mount - EMI paid in total ) . My Big plan was to cash-in my superbike at this juncture and use the money to payoff my company ! Plan sounds great on paper as i get to use both my car and the bike for 3 years

All this works out fine IF and only IF i get atleast 60-70% resale value
What do you guys think ? Would a Ninja 650 fetch this value? anybody having experience with selling Superbikes?

-- Harsh!

Going by the sales figures, it doesn't seem like the Ninja 650 is a popular choice even among FIRST-hand buyers, leave alone second-hand ones. If it ain't popular when new, it won't be popular when used.

Are sales figures available for that bike? I thought booking was closed and hasn't been re-opened.

a few months back I saw a Ducati 1198 on sale in Chandigarh for 9-10lakhs, you can search on google but you'll have to be careful with the sources.
IMHO leave aside superbike plans and buy a new Ninja 250, will take care of all your needs and considering the Bangalore traffic it is a practical option.

That's not really true. The. Ninja 650 has been a runaway success at least in it's first phase. Bookings closed within 15 days of opening because they were sold out. They next plan to open bookings in February. I know some pretty senior people at Bajaj Auto so can vouch for the authenticity of this info.

if you are willing to buy a blue or a white coloured r1 i can write down now on a contract paper that i will buy your r1 at 60-70% of todays value...

but just one question:

will you be willing to sell your bike after 3 years of usage?

A litre class might make your plans but i highly doubt the 650R will.Remember the 650R is of a segment that is evolving in India. There will be lots more affordable options in some time in this segment.

Default Food for thought

have you contemplated buying a 3 -4 year old SBK, the resale would definitely not drop by much and it wouldn't pinch you as much as buying a new SBK
