The companies do a third party insurance but the only problem that you can face after you put up a claim is the cost of parts , since its not available officially.so the insurace is useful only in case if you hurt someone in an accident and he puts up a claim against you under the MACT.(Motor Accident Claims Tribunal)

P.S. : SBK owners , please add your comments so that we can know these things in more detail
@Niks: A bike can be illegal under following cases
1. Duty paid just partly.
2. Bought it on TR, and sold off to you(someone)
3 .... can someone add something else ??

And coming to insurance.... Especially, 3rd party insurance, as you said its for just to claim funds for the other party in case of an accident. This 3rd party insurance doesnt help you in re building your bike back to shape.

two examples: A partially duty paid bike. A gsxr 750 2008 model came out of port after paying just close to 35000rs of duty.

Another example, the 3rd party insurance amount that i pay per annum for the busa is 850 rupees only

^^ third party insurance is required by law so that in case the accident claims the life of the accused the victim can use the money from he third party as compensation...
another simple of alerting cops is if the bike has an ut of state registration and u donot have the NOC for the area where u are riding it..its easy for cops to stop you .....and then when they realize, u dont have genuine papers u get into trouble!!!
happened with my car in chennai a lot of times but a small bribe always took care of it..

I see that now illegal activities are ok to be discussed and encouraged on this board? Can we all do this now?

Does maintaining an SBK is a big deal that a regular expert can't handle, given there are no major glitches?
Hey, not got any reply yet .

A preowned 600cc without a mechanic around in your town ??

Its a Risk... May not be a risk.

If you are buying it from a person who maintained the history of the bike as clean as possible... and you know him in personal, go get it, forget about mechanics... Small works like replacing oil filter and oil, along with airfilters... can be done by you.

And if you buying it from totally mars... Be careful. In your particular case..dont case any risk buying it from an total unknown fellow.

Not at all. People should keep bike papers etc discussions to PM's and mods need to sweep up the thread
