Was cruising at 50-60 today ... saw a calf running from the left of the road to right ... so i steered a bit right... and suddenly another one popped infront from the right !!!!
Slammed the brakes HARD ! ABS kicked in trying to balance the brakes and preventing the wheels to lock... anyway, it was too close.. hit the calf from the right of the bike.. thot this is it ... this is gonna cost me a few lakh of repairs.... the calf (he was as high as the handle bar) fell flat but miraculously I did not fall , instead just stopped dead straight...... The calf got up and was limping a bit, so i went ahead.... thanking my stars ..... As for bike, I stopped a few hundred meters ahead to inspect, there was not a single sign of collision, except some marks on the front tyre, and the right air intake has a point which is slightly displaced.... Its something like, you try as you can, then your mind thinks of getting ready for the consequences, and out of blue, you and your bike come out scratchless. You better thank your ABS than your stars.

Holy Cow....pun intended.
Glad you and the bike are fine. God bless those ABS brakes. Here is one more reason to always gear up before riding. The other day i tried to sling shot this really slow moving car in 40 MPH zone. I was up to 70 when i whizzed past him and steered in front of him...suddenly the signal in front of me turned red. I braked and..maybe the bike went over some oil spilled on the road.......the bike began to fish tail....so i released the brakes for a second..and hit em again....again it did that. I was freaking out..cause i was probably just a stone throw away from the light. Anyway....i did manage to stop......i thanked my brakes....thanked god...and gave the R6 a pat.... phew girl....that was close" P.S. Fish tailing is one heck of an experience.

@Fireblah: So, the ABS did kick in and I am sure it was one of the most important factor that made sure that the 1000RR did not skid.
Any other superbike, and the result could have been disastrous, who knows!

exactly. Not sure of what would have happened to other super bikes though.

for an inexperienced rider without the braking technique, disk brakes can be a fair handful when you just grab at them , locking the front wheel and sending you flying. im sure the abs helped there but you also need to learn the right braking technique which is setup and squeeze
it a 2 part technique which when you have some practise will become second nature and make hard stops pretty easy when you need to brake, lightly squeeze the brake lever till you take the slack out of it and they just start to bite. then you can gradually increase force and brake as hard as you want while rolling your wrist to twist back the accelerator to the start position. the key is to be fluid and not jutterry. with some practise you will be amazed how quickly you can do it. and its a technique used from street riding to motogp racing |
