A 600 cc LEGAL bike is going for betwee 2.5-3 lakhs of same vintage and the 750s commanding marginally higher prices. Of course, the better ones command the higher limits I've mentioned and their uniqueness and previous ownership records matter a lot. Without legal papers, don't even think of owning such bikes in Mumbai and Bangalore for some time now. DRI is very active in these 2 cities. If you still insist, a good price should be roughly 2/3 of what a legal goes for, just for the risk part. Don't buy without papers. If someone does, not more than 2 lakhs, for higher risk is not worth it.

As for Honda CB 400, I remember someone bought a Honda CB 750 of 1987 vintage with fully legal papers for just above 2 lacs. So take your pick. Honda 400, with no papers, anyone going for more than 1.5/6/7 lakh will be a fool. I'm telling you these prices from my own experience with fellow s-bikers in my circle.
Of course, I agree. A bike which has seen 25 years, What more can it give?
I dare ask, Would it even be fair at about Rs. 1 Lac or so, knowing the consequences?

Wouldn't a R15 be a more satisfying deal OVERALL??

Mr. Singh, I understand that you can't quote a price HERE, in hope of getting the maximum possible amount. Best of Luck... I hope you get a good deal.

phew

for once i thought samarth has matured and will give some sensible advice. but guess that will still take some time. no offence samarth but seriously i think it is wiser to go step by step when its your first bike rather than taking a big jump, only to realise that you have fallen flat on your face.

riding a super bike or a super-sport is not as easy as riding a splendor or a karizma. riding includes lot of things. not just balancing the bike on 2 wheels. you have to understand the power delivery, the handling, the weight, the reactions and ofcourse the nature of the bike to say that you are riding it fine.

after having a cbr 600rr for over a year, i have a friend's r6 with me from over a month. though i have not ridden it a lot, but i still can not say that i "know" how to RIDE it. its a learning curve. i am somewhere in the middle of it.

the coca cola advertisement was not suggesting that a middle aged "should" ride a bike, but the message was lot different than what you understood.
the same thing happens when my dad takes the bike out for a "ride". it wobbles and he tries real hard not to get his foot on the ground to balance it. can anyone call it riding?
technically yes....actually NO!

i have been refraining from quiet some time to ask you this question samarth, but how many super-bikes or super-sports have you ridden, handled and lived with, that you have to comment/suggest on everyone who has a bike or wants to own a bike. or for that matter even wants to sell his bike.

i suggest you should really try and refrain from commenting on things on which you have little or NO knowledge.

as they say, half knowledge is worse than no knowledge.

hope you do take it in the right spirit.

and who makes me an authority to suggest anything on bikes??
no one.

i have a limited experience of riding bikes for around 30 odd thousand kilometers. out of which 28 odd thousand kilometers have been just on super sport/super bikes.

CHEERS!!

There are people from both schools of thought. You'll find many people who started and lived with a Litre Class, without crashing and falling even once ...

I can understand. Maybe, the curve won't be smooth. But tell me, one has to start somewhere, right?
and since you have a lot of experience, May I ask how different is a 600 from a 1000? I like 600's a lot, but what good is purchasing a bike for learning, and selling it again to buy something else? Why not rather start practicing on something you wanted for years?

Buy a 600, learn it, then sell it and then buy a 1000, especially in a country like India ... How much sense it makes I wonder?

Good question, I did interview a Superbiker in Ajmer months ago, only 16 years old & uses no helmet. An illegally imported Honda CBR 1000 - that Red & White Color Combo. He's quite comfortable with his bike, even in the small city... Even he learned it, and never crashed. He studies in 11th class...?
I did not post that on Xbhp, because he was not ready to wear the helmet while riding.

So, I saw a different & "maybe" optimistic side to the picture. No matter how mature you or me get, We always say what we perceive... Right?

Anyways, I'll avoid such comments on SBK's qualities... and sorry for this OT ...
