Few question.

1. How many kilometers/miles?
2. How many owners on paper. How long did the last owner had it on his name?
3. What about the papers?
4. What registration. Most 92 bikes would have entered through Mumbai and on TR, but that helps, especially in Mumbai.
5. What condition & wear and tear situation. If you need to change tires, sproket, chain, shocks, forks, plastics, then you are in for a good amount of expense.
6. Is there a good mechanic in your vicinity? If not, will you get your bike down to Mumbai/Bangalore to get repaired/ service often?

If most of these are in positive, you are in. A GSXR-600 of 92 should be between 2 & 2.5 if all papers are good and in a good condition. If you are getting a bike abused by a kiddo (read college dude), don't even think of owning it. You will spend more than a lac easily restoring it & it will still not be complete.

A couple of Laks is Max. And oh, btw, couple means 2. 2L should be the best that you should give. Not a penny more. Anything less! Whatever be the condition of the bike, good, bad, mint, it is not worth more than a couple!

Of course, Depreciating even by 5% (modestly), it comes out to be Rs. 1.5 Lacs or so.

Add to it, the overall wear & tear, and lack of service, and maybe the papers. So, finally you must pay something around 1.5 Lacs to be practical.

Remember, the life of such bikes is almost used up. At the best, you can maintain it maybe for 3-5 more years, considering spares and service in India. So, Take Decisions wisely, and you can show this thread to that guy, if he asks more than 2 Lacs ...

@ 'Samarth 619', Just to give you an idea, a 98 CBR 919 also goes for 4000 US $ and a 95 CBR 900 as well. A car or bike with three owners and average/shady ownership will always command a lesser price than single ownership well maintained car/bike of same or even older vintage. A lot depends on how it is maintained and other factors which I've mentioned previously.

Remember, There is always a premium on good things in life & older things with good ownership hold their value compared to newer toys (read bikes or cars). Exotics and antiquity just adds a few more stars to the going price.

However, going by others response, I believe you have been told many times not to advise incorrect information. You really don't have any idea of what makes a sports bike, what quality parts go in and what is the criteria for their depreciation. Still, I suggest too, stop advising to newbies. Your advices do more harm to general perceptions and a propespective learner than do any good. I also suggest you read ken da's sticky article a few times over to understand the meaning completely. BTW, before the fingers is pointed back to me, I should tell you that I speak from my experience of 2+ yrs of hunt for a clean bike which ended recently, successfully!

Anyway, you have been told this & will ignore my words. So thanks, but no thanks.

PS: gideontony, Get us more details. Pics of the bike will do more talk than anything else. We'll take this up when we get the necessary details.
