Query Approved
If you have lived in a Oz for longer than 2 years (to my knowledge) you are allowed to import the bike to India on TR (Transfer of Residence) with 100% duty on the value of the bike evaluated by the customs officials at the moment of import. This is true only for bikes above 800cc. For bikes less than 800cc, you either have a penalty to pay or have your bike confiscated by customs! I noticed that you said that you own an R6!

Found out an article related to this...
What should you know about before importing a car/bike With the number of Indians traveling and staying abroad these days, I think there should be more awareness about this. Often it could be cheaper to import a bike on your own. It also gives more choices in both price and different bikes .. |

Importing the bike permanently means that you have to go thru the whole procedure as explained in this thread. Yes, its a cumbersome process!
Bringing bikes to India Importing in india, has anything changed?? However, if you want to bring it into India for TEMPORARY USE ONLY, then you are allowed to keep it in India for a maximum period of 6 months. But beware during these 6 months you can not leave the country without taking your bike with you. Visit the link below for more details: EXEMPTION TO CERTAIN VEHICLES IMPORTED BY TOURISTS* UNDER TRIPTYQUE OR CARNET DE PASSAGE For temporary import: Air shipping one-way should cost you about US$ 1,000 to 1,500 Sea shipping will be marginally less. In India the clearing charges (inbound) and forwarding charges (outbound) will total about Rs. 12,000-15,000

Thankx for the above info guys ,,really appreciate that but bit confusing
@ Haroon Here the thing I already stayed here in australia for more then 2 year,,, and will be back in india for 45 days,,,, Then:- 1) I already have a bike here that I'll be importing so Offcourse it will come under used bike... 1) How long has to be the bike papers on my name here in australia? 2) Custom charges are 100% on used one RIGHT? so when I'll be reaching the port ,,I'll be charged with complete custom charges that means 100% duty or not? and how they guys will be able to find out that how much is the bike worth so that they can put 100% duty on top of it...??????? 3) Again what will be the export duty ? 4) When I'll be exporting my bike back to australia,,,The duty I'll be paying in the beginning will be refundable or not? 5) are any bike paper work charges there,,if yes then how much it will be?????? 6) are there any hidden charges included????? &) And finally If you riders know any consultant specialized in ATA CARNET thing Plz let me know... Replys will be appreciated thankx,,cheers |

Sunny- Let me clarify a little more clearly.
There are only 2 scenarios for bringing your used bike into India Scenario-1: You want to bring the bike to India, pay customs, clear it and register it in Delhi with a NEW number plate and the bike remains in Delhi for ever. End of story. In this case, you must have owned it for atleast 2 years in Aus and have to declare a value for the bike in the shipping invoice. BUT, the customs guys have their own evaluation formula and will fix the dutiable value according to their calculation. (thanks to the net as well as their database, they have all the prices of new/used bikes in different countries). Every new bikes has a fixed value as per the customs database of international prices and customs tariffs are also fixed (not much room to play around), whereas for used bikes (depending on what you bribe the customs guy), he can self-evaluate the value for the bike saying its a damaged/accident bike etc (although in reality it is not damaged) and then he decides on the customs value to be paid by you. You pay customs & whatever other levies and take the bike home and next day take it to your RTO and register it with a Delhi license plate and the bike remains in India for ever. Scenario-2 If I understand your situation correctly, you want to keep the bike in India for say 45 days ONLY. In this case, the link of Chennai customs which I gave you earlier, explains the details of the Temporary import/Carnet procedures. In this situation, firstly, you dont need to have a minimum period of ownership in Aus and secondly you DO NOT PAY ANY CUSTOMS and also you will continue to use your Australian license plate on the bike in India for 45 days. You will only pay for the clearance charges when you imported the bike plus the forwarding charges when you are exporting it back to Australia after 45 days. The total of both these would be approx Indian Rupees 12,000-15,000.
