Post Help on, 99 RXG 135 Restore

hi Guys,

I have a 95 model RXG 135 and from some time back I was planning to restore it to RX 135 5S.
I bought this bike two years back and was using it daily for about 8 kms. One bad day @10 pm, I found the kicker was jammed, didn't know what to do. I had no idea what could be the fault. I had to push two kms to find the garrage and to know that the engine is siezed .

After this incident, next morning, I took the bike with all the spare parts in a plastic bag to a service center near Sankey road. I got the reference of that service center thru my brothers friend. Finally I came to know that rebore was the only option to resolve the issue. To my worst part I came to know that the engine was ported and had been thru a lot of abuse and only one last re-boring could be done.
I checked with the guy to know is it worth going for a re-bore and how far it would last after re-bore. He ensured me that I can run the bike with an avergae of 50 kms a day for about minimum 3 to 4 years. Then I decided to get it done. I got the quotation of around 8 k. Finally the bill came up to 8.5k.

After all this, I have a lost that yamaha RX thing in my bike. There is a lack of pull. The engine looks very tired. Its really tiresome to ride the bike especially in bangalore city traffic. There are lot of other problems like oil leakage, hard suspension, electrical problems etc. I tried to fix it sometimes but in vain. I cannot ride the bike continuosly for say 20 km or so. So I don't take it for longer rides

Many times I thought of selling it and going in for a new bike. But my passion of RX is not letting me to sell it. So, I am planning to restore it completely to RX 135 4s or 5s.
I am totaly dumb on technical aspects of the bikes so thought of taking help from gurus. So thats when I joined Xbhp and read some of the threads about RX restoration. I have also messaged Pradeep for his help. He then asked me to start a new thread on this.

Now, I am really hoping positive to get my bike into perfect condition. I know its going to cost me more. But would like to know what exactly to be done and where and how much approx it would cost me.
Any help in this regard will be useful.

I will post the pictures as I have to reduce the sizes according to xBHP spec.

Thanks

Do let us know your usage pattern. Do you use it as a commuter or just for weekend fun. How many kms/day approx? What were the works done for 8.5k?

Converting it to 5 Speed version is going to be costly. Pradeep (pyscho98)would have informed you the going rates for 5 Speed cylinder kit & Transmission Asembly.

Which oil do you mean by 'oil leakage'? Hard suspension shouldn't be too difficult to rectify. A new set of shocks should solve that.

I don't know about electricals though. RXG had some problems with electricals from the factory itself or so I heard. Experts will be able to comment on that.

It would be ideal to get friendly with an A.S.C to procure parts at M.R.P.

All the best

EDIT: It is Bengaluru & not 'Bangaluru'. No offence meant.

bud, just sharing my 2 cents of experience. Never rebore the cylinder from any local garage, you'll never get the performance of the new one. Even if you do so, it will never with stand for a long time. This is the lesson I learned by my mistake of several thousand Rs (very embarassing to quote the money). Not tried, but would like to in future, give a try only with places where they do it machine, a cylinder reboring machine.

Converting to 5 speed is not only costly affair, but also drop FE, change several OE parts. I would recommend you not to be in a hurry & wait patiently to get things done. I've been suffering with a rebored cylinder for several years (but then was riding only 50 or so Kms a week), I was lucky to get a 4 speed barrel about 4 months back & man!!! this is what I call as performance (stock barrel compared to the rebore). If you're not in hurry, procure the parts from A.S.S at MRP & build it up gradually.

If you're very friendly, then you can expect some discounts too

Raghu do check some following things :

1) What oversize its running ?? i read its last please confirm whether its 1mm or 2mm.
2) Whats the current state of bike ?? is it running or standstill ?
3) Retain the 4 speed set up it much fun for the city.

Post some pics first, if thats an rxg there is a lot of enjoyment in it hidden you just need to remove some flaws in it thats it, the rxg pulls crazy than the 135's coz of its taller gearing.. so dont worry you have a stock rocket in hand.

@ Nithin it wouldn't be an costly affair at all only the bore costs an arm and a leg rest is still sourceable at affordable prices, if you say converting 5 speed is a costly affair then what will you say to the guyz who get rx 100 or 135's at 40k+ if you ask me that would not be worth the $$, in the end it depends on one's passion and love on his bike or his set up for them the cost wouldn't be a matter.

I know a guy in the forum who has bought a 135 for a pricey amount and converting it to 5 speed, recently we happened to open the 4 speed engine for the conversion and came to know that the engine was never opened after it was fitted in the factory for 7 long years the owner had clocked 12k+ and shut fill drive, every single part in the engine as mint as u can get, its running on standard bore and the bore mounts on the crankcase had rusts on it, had a tough time removing it LOL enough said if i go on i will end saying the owners name here..

@jd666: I have attached some images. Let me know if you can see them.

@NitinGirish: At present, my brother is using it and I'm using his FZ16. He runs daily around 15 kms.
I know it would cost me more. I have not spoken to pradeep yet about the details.
The oil leakage seems to be 2t oil or side oil.But it seems there is no problem with the side tank. You can see it in one of the image.
"EDIT: It is Bengaluru & not 'Bangaluru'. No offence meant."..sorry a typo mistake will do it.

@aargee: Thats why this time, I don't want to do it with unknown service center.
About converting to 5 speed. I wanted to upgrade to 5 speed so that in future If it ever happenned to use it daily to cummute 50kms or so then it would be worth using then. I thought 5s would be good for daily commuting with good fuel economy.

@Psyco:
1) not sure but it seems it is 2mm.
2) The bike is running and my brother is using it now daily for about 15 kms.
3) as far as retain it to 4 speed, I don't mind. But as I said, in future if I ever happenned to use it daily for about 50 kms or so then it would be worth then. Also is the FE of 4s better then 5S?

@Vas: the bike in the picture you are riding is Yezdi right. I love that bike. I thought of going for it the time I bought RX but I knew maintenace would be difficult so dropped that Idea. It has a place in my heart.

hey guys, If anyone wants to check my bike this weekend, it is ok with me.

thanks

Guys, just wanted to share the information I heard last evening that the parts for 5 speed are even rare than Rx100. I was looking out to buy a clutch shaft for 5 speed gearbox & they said a big "NO" . Its available for 100 & 135 4 speed (available as single piece after 1-2 weeks, but along with gearbox assembly NOW).

PS - I'm running on 4 speed barrel with 5 speed gearbox
