Hey guys,
This is my first post in xbhp and after a lot of research through the forums i realized the need for this. I am looking at listing out all the differences between the RX 135 4 speed, RX 135 5 speed and RXZ 5 speed. So far as of my understanding and assumptions (plz correct me if I am wrong):
Well thats what comes to my mind as of now.. plz add if I have missed out anything and correct if any of my listings are wrong. Once we have a list in place, I would also like to know if by fixing the differences can we convert a 135 4 speed to a stock 135 5 speed to perform as good as a company fitted original 5 speed? Thanks in advance .. Armin |

AFAIK,
135 5s and the 5s Z are near identical in - They both have the same bore-piston-head-carburetor. Carb is 4TL4 20 for the 5speed. And there are those who will claim the 5speed Z had a different CatCon to the 135 5S..... AFAIK its just speculation. Its the same catcon on both bikes I believe. 14BHP. 135 4S has a different bore piston head kit and a diff carb 4TL4 00 . 12 BHP. Sprockets its 16 34 for the 4speed and 15 38 for the 5 speed I believe. And yes you can get a 4Speed into a 5 speed by purchasing the entire gearbox kit and getting a 4sp bore piston kit. You can still use the same 4speed carb and get a rx100 shaved head or mod the existing 4s head to bump up the compression. Get a 5speed chain sprkt set as well. Getting a 5s carb or head is almost impossible I guess. Last edited by Sandeep_K_Ram; 04-17-2010 at 08:20 AM. |

^^ Pretty much summed it up.
You can find some 2002 and later RX135 5 speeds, which were 12.5 bhp, not the 14.5 bhp models.

So how much difference is there between the RXZ and 135's chassis? Any particular advantages of one over the other?
Are both the engines in the same state of tune , HP-wise? Also, any gear ratio differences? I was looking out for a Z for a long time but if there is not much difference from a 135 then I might as well pick up a 135. Opinions? |

@tanay - the chassis differ for the design of the rear end for mounting the tail lights and the seat and tank design. Rest everything is common to the RX family no difference.
The RXZ 5 speed has slightly longer front fork legs, but thats accomodated in the front steering stem, which is longer, and needs a metal bush at the top.

Clutch bell , gear ratio etc ...everything same man.
Only change between 135 5 speed and the Z 5s is the bodyline and stuff like discs etc. Mechanically its near identical AFAIK. Yes- since they are the same ...it makes sense for ppl to buy a half decent 135s and spend money on rebuilding it rather than fall for the "Z" factor and buy a shagged Z 5s for 40K+. |
