Hi Guys. I am Harish from Madurai. I am fond of olden day bikes and obviously thats why I am still riding an 18yr old KB100
. This thread is related to the Enfield Explorer which was launched along with the silver plus and the legendary fury. The very reason to start this thread is that my dad had one long time ago say....when I was 5yrs old.Well about the bike.....I know a thing or two about it. It had a 50cc two stroke engine mated to a 3-speed gearbox. The unique thing was that it was moped which looked like a bike . Also it had alloy wheels . It was light so it was easy to zip and flick between traffic. It had a good true top whack around 60+. Regarding the colours well.....we had a blue one and I have seen a red one. These are the only two colours I know. Upto my knowledge this bike can be clearly called an extinct or exotic bike .Let us share what we know.......

Whoa!!! why is this I'm hearing about this bike so much in last 1 week? Last week I spotted a mint Explorer about 1 Kms away from home; today morning I was discussing about this & now here's a dedicated thread. I'm looking forward to contribute my 2 cents & learn more from this thread on Enfield Explorer
For people wondering what this is all about, here's a glimpse of how it looks

This was the bike i actually lerned the finer points of riding on. My Dad taught me riding a geared vehicle on his Chetak, and then the first year of Pre university one of my close friends used to ride an Explorer to College and would let me ride it. I remeber it had a neutral between every gear, It had 3 gears and the clutch on that particular bike needed near herculean strength to operate. I am kinda thankful to this bike and my friend for like training me to bigger and faster motorcycles, my freind then moved on to a KB100 and that really was a dream come true for us lads back then.

Hi guys,
Asked my dad a few things about the bike. These are the things I got to know. It produced power around 3hp(lol !). Gave a pretty decent mileage of 50-55kmpl(great for a 2-strokey !). It had a long wheelbase as you can see from the photo. He told that even if you brake suddenly, the bike would only slide sidewards but would never fall. The bike was produced by enfield in collabration with Zundapp, a german company. My dad's bike was a 2nd hand one(Rs.5000) but he said back in 1988 the bike costed RS.9500(ex-showroom chennai). The bike was sold in three colours-red, blue and silver. The bike was known for its reliability. Though it did not sell in high numbers, it had good reputation particularly for the brand name. Both the explorer and silver plus(same engine but looked like a TVS XL) sold more than the fury. However slowly enfield started losing its collabration with zundapp and finally decided to stop the production of the three bikes and enfield went ahead with their bull marketing . But still if you ask people who know the 80's well, they can tell you enough about the bike. My dad said he had done 70+ many times . As a 2-strokey it was zippy but when there is pillion the bike would feel the heat.Sorry about the pic I promised. I am still searching it. I will definitely put it up here soon .

Here is one I found on the internet ! My cousin used to own one while I owned the Silver Plus when we were in college during 1986.
