hello guys i'm new here in Xbhp.com and as an early warning .. i dono much abt bikes other than the riding part and i'm sure that i'll learn much from the many experts on this website.
i'm interested in buying a Yamaha RX 100 . read many posts on many sites . all d ppl agree that it is a true legend . so i went abt searching for this bike in Hubli , Karnataka (d place where i live) finally found a used bikes dealer who's selling 1 ... the bike looks in pretty good condition .. didnt get a chance to ride it n all but it looked quite good .. he has put on a three spoke silver alloy rims insted of the stock rims but thtats abt it .. i ask the price and wht do i hear ???? 28K ????? i guess thats d reason no 1 bought that beauty ..so toda i'm gonna take a mechanic and check it out thoroughly .. also this is the first 2-wheeler dealing in my family so even dad knows nothin abt it and we dont know any trusted mechanic . dad fears that the mech and the dealer will both cheat us of our money and make us pay for a piece of crap .... but i convinced him to give it a try .. so this is wht i wanna ask : 28k - is it worth it ? cos i've heard online tht ppl get RX100's for 10k-15k ... otherwise wht would be the best price ? and wht do i've to watch out for so tht we dont get cheated by the mech and d dealer ??? ![]() all help is well appreciated...thank you

@AMG_13 - Welcome to the forum. Pls take sometime to go through forum rules & do post an intro about yourself.
First & foremost thing you forgot to post is which year of make this is & how many number of ownership is registered on the RC book. Are the papers clean? Quote:

Warning - If you've made up your mind to buy RX, then pls don't read further - The most difficult part of RX to obtain is the cylinder. Check if your cylinder is in stock or sleeved. If its sleeved its worth only about few hundred rupees - Next, check for electricals & loose switches & the condition of the battery. If its 6V, then you may need to know that 6V is completely outdated atleast a decade & half ago. Check the conditions of ignition coil, rectifier & flasher (basically all electricals) - Does the motorcycle run on oil pump or on premix? If on premix, then the oil pump has gone kaput. You may or may not opt to replace this one. - Since the wheel rims are changes, is the motorcycle in stock? Means, there's a possibility of rear swing arm being changed. - Is the motorcycle running on stock or after market carbs? - What's the condition of the tires & size? Stock is 2.50 X 18 (front) & 2.75 X 18 (rear) - Is there a disc brakes in the front? - What's the condition of clutch & gear shafts? You may need to open up & check this one. - What's the condition on the front forks & cone set? and the front & rear suspensions? - There're several threads running on how to obtain parts for RX & there's even one running on how to file up a case with Yamaha. So be prepared to spends the days on waiting parts, rebuild projects. - Last but not the least, be prepared to shell out a good money upfront for the "legend" OR in the form of FORD (Fix Or Repair Daily). Alternatively, buy a good 4 stroke engine that has loads of power than the "legend" for a trouble free rides in the forth coming years. Whatever you choose, best of luck. I know you're a newbie, take sometime, go through this forum & search for the pictures of the parts that I'm talking about.

why don't you put some detailed snaps of the machine ?? it ll help you to get a closer look to what you want as well as to the experts here to suggest you better options (i.e. get a RX100 in 8-9k and get it restored to your requirements) it will cause less damages to your (or your dad's) pockets. |

You live more in five minutes on a bike like this
|
check for slipped cylinder/head & spark plug studds. (look for oil leaks)
gear box and clutch condition (make a test run rev through the gears, you will come to know) brakes especially with the after market alloys top end/bottom end bearings (listen for engine sounds), cranks are difficult to get. in case if it needs a crank overhaul never go for a bigger crank pin local job. bent chasis & cone-ball condition (bike pulling to side at low speeds, look if front & rear tyre standing in a line ) good luck Last edited by satishg; 05-31-2010 at 10:41 AM. |

PS - I hope this is your first motorcycle in the family. Why don't you guys go & get a new motorcycle? Experience the taste of new one, learn the nitty gritty stuff of owning one, visit the A.S.S & know what they do & then think of getting a used one? For now, try getting a FZ16 & trust me, its as powerful as RX or if you like the straight sitting posture, go for an TBTS/C5/C3 or ZMR that're very comfortable. If you post a question for a new motorcycle, I'm sure you'll be flooded with good choices.
