Glad you liked it Dualdisc. The Suzuki is from the first batch to hit India (an '84 as I recall) and belongs to the same uncle who has made me an apprentice in the restoration process. Its NEVER been re-bored and is still running the standard piston. Rattles a bit since its been neglected for a while but still runs just fine. That is also the original paint. Only thing ever done to it was the addition of the disc which my uncle did a few years ago since he uses it to commute on occasion.

Interesting story about that one.

If you notice, the decals say 'Suzuki' and not 'Ind-Suzuki'. What happened was that the TVS guys placed the wrong order for decals and they were sent 100 pairs of the original Japanese decals. These 'extras' were sent to some of their dealers as a complimentary thing. My uncle used to run one of the first Suzuki dealerships in the country (Manx Motors, Bangalore) and so he got his hands on them and promptly used those on his bike This was back in '84.

Just a few pics from a month ago. The bike's been taken apart. Tags have been placed on all the wiring. The tank alone has now been buffed and emeried for some 50 hours. You can see my Uncle at work and how he's doing it. I put in a bit of elbow when he's satisfied that I'm doing it right







I've also added a pic of my Uncle's garage.

Yup, your eyes do not deceive you. What you see are three classics in their own right. They are

1. A 1964 Jawa restored to mint condition. My uncle has owned this bike since he was 16. A present to him from his grandfather back in the day.
2. 1984 Yamaha RZ350 YPVS (Yellow). This is a limited edition Kenny Roberts special model with KR's signature on the cowling. Its completely stock except for a cooling device he's added in front of the engine. In stock form this generates about 48 bhp of HOWLING power.
3. 1985 Yamaha RZ350 YPVS (Red). This is one monster of a bike. Its been re-tuned and puts out something north of 70 bhp of blistering, ball-shrivelling power. I have no idea. My uncle has never pushed it to its limit. Only people over 40 years of age are allowed to ride these bikes of his

Ray a Yamaha with YPVS..man have you ever been on this bike ? Your uncle sure has an exquisite taste in Bikes. Kenny roberts used the YPVS to its full potential,and no other bike could take him on..Since I am also an Oldy I do remember the days of Kenny Roberts,Barry Sheen,and Randy Mamola...Their riding must be seen to be believed...esp.Mamola....If you had not been on the YPVS yamaha ,somehow convince your uncle and take a ride on it.It is even superior to the RD 350 in high end performance.
Best of luck on your restoration project..take care ..and look after the Yamaha YPVS..it is worth more than Gold..It is History of Yamaha's engineering innovation and superiority.

What is the difference between RZ350 & RD350?

RZ is liquid cooled and comes with a sporty cowl, belly pan, expansion chambers, YPVS and a host of other enhancements. It is entirely another generation of motorcycle compared to the rustic RD or even the liquid cooled RD350LC.
