A big Hello to all the xBhp members !
I just got approved to be a member of this forum, and i thought what better post to kick start My innings here than a thread related to RX-100 ? Right now Im 20 years old, pursuing my Engineering (Computer). Ever since I started to fall in Love with bikes (around age 12-13), the Yamaha RX-100 always held a special place in My heart, many new bikes were launched and talked about but a place was always reserved for the ol' RX in My heart ! The legendary praises, the classic looks, the old school engineering and of course the sentimental value all contributed to My love of the RX. Now, to the present : I used to drive a 2005 Honda Dio at first (Age 16 = Non-Geared license !) Then My elder brothers 2004 Hero Honda Passion Plus (first model) was passed down to Me(Age 18 = Finally, Geared Bikes !). I really like My Passion Plus "Camel" as its nicknamed due to the fact that it gives a very high mileage ! ![]() A few days back My dad suggested to Me that it was time for Me to get a new bike. He asked "Which bike do U want ? Pulsar, Karizma, Stunner, Unicorn ?" And My reply was "A pre 1993 RX-100 or a post 1999 Rx-135" ! Initially Dad opposed it by saying that any RX-100 would be at least 15-16 years old, and what about availability of parts, reliability of such an old bike, getting one with proper papers, it being 2-Stroke etc. After some persuasion and explaining (Its a low maintenance bike, all the parts have been re-launched by Yamaha, it can be built from scratch, I would prefer that Bike over any new bike), Dad relented, and told me to search for a comparatively good one ! So, here I am, in the midst of the Guru's and Pro's of the Indian Biking scene, asking for a bit of advice and help ! I researched a lot, and have read almost ALL the threads related to RX's, so I know a few things. But still, here is My main subject- Subject : Regarding advice, on buying a RX-100/RX-135. I really want an RX-100 but its quite Ok if I get an RX-135 because I think of them as being sister bikes. I have already asked a lot of friends/relatives to tell Me if they come to hear about a RX for sale. I am ready to be patient. Already I have 3 bikes to look forward to, one of which Ill be checking out tomorrow. Im not planning a complete rebuild/rebirth of the bike, what Im intending to do is buy a RX whose engine is in a Good condition, I really dont care about the cosmetics as Im planning to paint/chrome it and replace only necessary parts but not ALL parts. Yours suggestions are welcome. Can You please tell me what to consider/look for when Buying an RX ? By researching all the threads here, I know these things : 1) Look for the tires. 2) Start the engine and try to notice the engine sound. See if its making some rattling noise and if the engine vibrates heavily when started. This may mean fault in the engine, ie piston and rings. 3)Check if the meters are working properly 4)Check Battery and electricals. 5)Check for bend in fork/handle. 6)Gears. 7)Rust inside the petrol tank, chassis, mud guards, rims, chain cover. 8)Check for the oil pump on the right side of the engine. 9)A look a the spark plugs 10)Check shock absorbers - Front - any oil deposits on the fork will indicate signs of worn out oil seals. 11)Other stuff to inspect include chain set, wheel bearings, electricals, cables etc. 12)Check Engine Compression (Ideal = 9:1) If I have missed out anything, please suggest what all I should be looking/checking in a old RX. Can U instruct Me as to what PAPERS to check for, so that I dont get Duped or something ?! ![]() Also, Im from Pune, so If there are any members from Pune, who would give Me a helping hand in my quest for RX-100, it will be greatly appreciated ! Thanks in advance, Anish |

hi good choice that u have made that of a 2stroke and that too RX,i am sure that now days no one sells old RX specially well maintained ones, and if u find a good RX it wont be less that 25-30thousand in pune,i am also from pune and i have an 88 model RX and a 96 RXG,both rarely used.
I had some saving's with me which i wanted to buy some imp spare's for both the bike's like block/piston set just wanted for future use luckily i had to visit wakdewadi Yamaha showroom and they had the same for both the bikes and i just bought it without any second thought, after a few months a friend's RX got screwed and had to change the block/piston which he had already bored it thrice, when we went to buy the same guys in Yamaha told us it is out of stock and might take 2-3 mths. His bike was in the appt closed for three mths, but we quite frequently visited to chk if they got stocks luckily one friday we made a plan to go on for a long ride the next day(saturday)to panchet dam,we already made a move on my bike for the trip but he said we will just pass the showroom and check i said ok and what luck we reached there and the guy in the spares told the truck of spares is going to come in half and hour if ur lucky u can get one set for ur bike we said better wait forget the trip. The truck arrived and they received alot of spares for the new models but for RX they received 10nos of block/piston in which we were able to get one for my friends bike what a hell of a wait it was 3mths uuufffff. Geniune stuff is difficult to find now days if u want an RX and really love the bike be prepared to even stock genuine stuff which may help u in future too. I will give u a site bikes4sale.in go out here and search if ur lucky u will find a good RX in pune dont go to Rasta peth,Nanapeth or any broker because genuine stuff is already removed from bikes and replaced with nalla item's where u will be quoted 30-35 thousand for some scrap looking and faltu noise making bike/engine.Points what u have put in here are quite good while selecting an RX but now days its difficult to find a bike in a good condition, clear papers dont get discouraged keep searching there are many bikes for sale in this site above i gave u. |

Good choice - pick a 100 rather than a 135 if you can - the real legend
![]() 1. Papers - mostly the FC will be due. So in that case you have to consider the condition of the bike and how much you might have to invest to make it pass the FC test - sure you can grease their palms - thats another thing altogether. Insurance - 90% would have lapsed but not a major headache. Emission - you can get it done later. Most important thing is to ensure that nothing has been manipulated in the RC book - and to at least have a copy of the old insurance papers - no matter how old it was. AND - will getting form 29-30 signed from the previous owners - ensure that the signature matches correctly in the RC book and the form 29-30... 2. Vehicle itself - man ...assume that the engine is ****ed ok ? I mean ..like a 15+ years old bike would have had at least two heart surgeries IMHO. So you probably will be lucky to get a std sized engine. Anyway, mechanically you can expect work due on engine, cycle parts etc. All in all - better stack 10K for unexpected issues that might arise after purchase

Buy 135 if you are looking for better performance. For ease of procuring spares 100 would be better.
Get a photocopy of the RC book from the prospective seller, get it verified in the R.T.O and only after that make full payment. Common sense, but thats what we tend to ignore! It would better if you can buy it from cities inland (as oppsoed to coastal cities like Mumbai) as the risk of corroded/rusted frame is lesser. Avoid dealers and since its 100 you want, its available in plenty. But no matter how good you think the condition is, expect damage to cylinder/piston like Sandeep said. Unless ofcourse its got very few kilometres on its ODO. Invest in a cylinder kit. All the best
