Hey guys!
I am going to embark on a massive engine overhaul starting tomorrow. I am going to get the cylinder rebored from a very reliable rebore guy in my city, get the crankshaft repaired, new bearings etc etc you know the usual? The thing that has been bugging me is that my mechanic says once the engine has been hauled over I should run it on 2 times the amount of 2t oil I normally would for the first 1000 kilometers, does this make any sense? At least to me it didn't :s Coming over to my second gripe somebody stole my rexy's silencer muffler (you know the mesh like thingy inside the silencer, Yes! somebody was crazy enough to steal it!) so I bought this new muffler and my motorcycle has lost the signature 'dib dib' it sounds muffled now more like somebody is choking the damn thing! Do you think that muffling down puts strain on the engine? A friend of mine said that the new mufflers restrict the air flow and this puts strain on the engine and I don't want my hauled over engine to be under stress from day one If somebody could post pics of their stock mufflers with the signature RX100 sound I might be able to hacksaw my way to glory

Not sure on the strain, but the newer ones have 1 additional baffle compared to the old ones. So they restrict the flow of exhaust gases due to which you'll have less sound. But I don't think it strains the engine in anyway.

First of all let me take the opportunity to thank you for reply to my post! I have a bunch of questions to ask you
Quote:
![]() ![]() Don't you think 25ml per litre is a bit lean? I have one more thing to ask you if I run the engine with a lean mix does it make the engine susceptible to break down easily? Like you know the black marks the bore and piston get all over em once you push it beyond limits which mark a ceasure?

Sorry for a lot of questions. But just want to know how do people usually do it. Am also getting my RX restored with a new engine block and piston set. So I will need to do running in and hence need some info from you.

During running in period, add perhaps 1% oil to petrol to be on the safer side.

Its upto you. You may do it via oil pump or keep the oil pump in the regular ration, but have a premix for the additional amount
Lean??? What do you mean by lean? Are you saying 25ml is less or fuel will become lean? Quote:

Pros of mixing will be that you're damn sure that you'll not run out of lubrication at any point & don't need oil pump anymore. Also your fuel tank is less susceptible to rust. Headache is you need to be carrying the 2T oil always unless you don't care about any damn 2T oil mix & you lose the convenience of topping up every month or so. Quote:

Check you local store & post the list of 2T oil you get in your locality. I'll help you select the best among the row. Reason being, I can suggest you any oil, but sadly 2T oils are becoming a thing of past these days.

My apologies for using a term that I myself am not familiar with and causing confusion. My doubt about the ratio was cleared by the picture a couple of posts up. Which one of castrol jasofc grade, kinetic 2t no jasofc grade and mak 2t jasofc grade 2t oil would you recommend?
