Hi All,
I have a RX 135 4s, 2000 model. I'm planning to rebuild the machine. Need help on parts procurement and advise on the process. Current specifications: RX 135 4s 2000 Run about 85K Running on 5speed bore-piston which was plonked in early 2008. Front & Rear sprocket (15/38). Front tyre 2.5x18 Rear tyre 3.00x16 Ceat Secura I'm doing the restoration in steps due to Vitamin M deficiency. - Get the required parts for the engine & cosmetics in stages over the next 2/3 months. - Get the engine overhauling somewhere in Feb/Mar. - Get a RTR/Gladiator front fork assembly. (No disc for time being). - RDD CDI kit - RDD Head mod - RDD filter - Fiber reed valve (need help on which is good and affordable) - Re-wind coild to accomodate 100/90. (May consider RDD 100/90 kit in future). - Change both front and rear tyre. Rim size 18" on both. Have following in mind. Suggestions or feedbacks on these are most welcome. - Front - Dunlop ZEBRA Y PLUS - MRF Zapper FS - MRF Zapper FM - Rear - Dunlop CHALLENGER 202 - Dunlop GEO CRUISER - MRF Zapper C - MRF Zapper Q (90/90 - 18) - Full body paint. Tank & Side flaps get black with white sparkles. Wheel hub, engine casing, crank casing, front fork and rear shock absrober gts matt black finish. Will try to get this done along with the engine overhauling. Parts procured so far from Yamaha Bangalore Wheels (Rajajinagar) - 1st oversize (0.25mm) piston kit at Rs. 1110/- (will also get 0.5mm as backup as its available in Bangalore showroom off the shelf) - Overhaul Gasket kit at Rs. 140/- - 5 speek chain and sprocket kit (15/38) at Rs. 459/- - Engine overhauling screw kit at Rs. 95/- - Gear lever / shift pedal at Rs. 125/- Parts to be procured in Dec - Side Panels - Complete bike nuts & bolts kit - Kicker assembly. The current one scrapes the silencer. (suggestions on which one should I go for) - Quick throttle - Mirrors pair I would like to know what other parts are required to be replaced when doing the engine overhaul (bearing, and parts of transmission) Is it good to go for a 5speed conversion kit. The reason I ask this is cause my bike feels like its reached its top speed at speed around 80. The sound the engine makes is like when you accelerate in lower gear. However, if I open the throttle, the bike pulls with ease till 110kmph on speedo. Also, I need a RXZ meter assembley. (please let me know if its available). Thank you for your valuable inputs & suggestions. |

What's overhaul gasket kit? Did you buy this or bought long ago or planning to buy? Would there be a difference between this & the above engine bolt nut kit or one at the same? Quote:

@Manarcane, you might want to save up a lil before starting any restoration.
However a few things where you can keep for later are RDD mods. just get the RDD CDI . and dont go for any rewinding get the 90/100 kit later. RXZ meters are available. The best reeds considered for RX sized reed valve are YAMAHA YZ 125 reed petals. they are little pricey but genuine ones cost around 2200. Next come original Boyesen dual stage reeds which are for around 1900. then there are Indian made dual stage reeds which are cheaper. The first upgrade you should be thinking of is a disc setup. Gladiator forks are around 6500. Original 5 speed conversion kitS are pricey. Locally made kits are cheaper but can be noisy. if you are not looking for a better top speed, retain the original 4 sp gearbox which can save you some money too.

Guys, help me understand, can one use Gladiator fork assy & Gladiator's front suspensions with RX100? I thought they're match only for Rx135 due to the change in top plates. I'm asking this out of my suffering!!!

1. The top part of suspension that is suitable for Rx100 is not suitable for Rx135 because of the top nuts. You know this better as I've done enough experiement & ultimately ended up buying 2 sets of new assy including suspension for Rx100 & Rx135. 2. Last time, Sri told me the top of Rx is not compatible with bottom of Glad & he got it from a very reliable source; this means, Glad's entire setup has to be bought. Now, if Glad has 2 types just like Rx, then its good, we can probably opt to buy the older (provided they came with disc setup)

Thank you all for your suggestions:
@aargee: I've gone through the thread you have given below. Also through the restoration thread of Astro_Atul, yamdoot, yours. However, it doesn't mention anywhere whats parts would need replacement when you overhaul a engine (or precisely, what possible parts would have gone kaput and is worth a replacement). With reagards to the Vitamin M, I guess I made it clear that I'm buying parts in installment. So that in the end, I only have to spend on the labour charges and the fluids. Why Gladiator's fork? Once all necesary stuffs are done, I'll buy the disc setup. Till then, I can manage if I keep the brake pads in good condition. Infact, for a stock setup, they are more than adequate. Current rim Size? 18" up front & 16" rear. At first, I though of going for the stock size of footwear. Then to be on safer side, I'm opting 2.75" in front and 3.00" rear. Both on 18" rim. Piston Kit 1st Oversize? ART Piston, rings & Pin. Isn't this what you call a Piston Kit. And yes, Will pick up the 0.50mm kit once I'm done with rebuilding the bike. Overhaul Gasket kit? Includes Crank case gasket, bore head gasket, bore gasket & silecer gaskets (the one near the bend pipe & silencer). Chain Sprocket Kit is already bought. Along with other parts this month. Engine Overhaul nuts? Includes all the nuts of the side cover. Doesn't include the stud nuts. Other nuts & bolts which goes into other parts of the body. Most of the current ones are rusted, damaged, or are of varying sizes. Kicker? Well, I have to replace this asits already damaged has bent. What do you mean by frame. Is the chassis that you are referring to. Footrest rod is good. Transmission Parts? I want to know what parts would usually need to be replaced (a must) and which one's would most probably be kaput. @Yamdoot How can I procure the reeds of either YZ125 the Boyesen dual stage reeds. There's not much of a price difference, so as per your suggestion, its better to go for the YZ125. Can you help me getting this. @RX88 I can go for the stock RXZ disc setup and get only the lower pipes changed. But can I fit any other disc kit on it. Say, Gladiators / RTR's. The next round of parts procurement will happen in the 1st week of Dec. So please help me out here? I'm also considering getting the engine part done by a reputed garage and rest of the things will be done at home. I would do the engine too, but due to lack of time, its not possible. And also, its my daily commuting bike. Last edited by manarcane; 11-18-2010 at 08:58 PM. |
