The original handlebar is really getting difficult to find these days (like most parts). The shops don't have them but you need to keep trying at the Gujli (the scrapyard) in Shivajinagar and you might get lucky.

Perhaps some of us will meet at the rally next weekend, what say?

Anybody have any ideas on where and how to pick original Mahle bore-piston kits and oversize pistons?

My Roadking purrs along beautifully until I hit about 80 - 90 kmh. Have got any number of compliments from random bikers on the road about how clean the beat of the engine is. At that point though (about 85 kmh) she just seizes. I bought the bike six months ago and I love her but this seizing has been bothering me. I'm no reckless speed demon but I like to know my engine is performing to its potential and the factory rated top-speed of the Roadking is supposed to be 120. So, I opened up the bore to figure out the problem and found that the piston is a local (unrecognisable one). Thought it might have been an uneven re-boring job but the bore looks just fine while the piston was burnt all around. Turns out the metallurgy is just bad and so expansion of the piston is greater than the bore causing it to seize.

Finally, I swopped the piston and rings with another local make but one which is very well known and costs more than twice any other piston. Vijaydeep Agencies on JC Road makes it. The set came with original Goetze rings so I'm rather happy about that. They are the best people to go to for re-boring since they use computer calibration to carry it out. Hoping the metallurgy matches the same standards. As of now I'm running it in for 500 kms and then I'll see what happens.

However, I would like to try and get a Mahle piston if at all possible and stock up on spares too. I'm running a .5 oversize now. Any suggestions?

@ Ray13 - You think Jain Auto Stores at Mysore would have them?

How much did the piston set up (local type) work out for you?

BTW - does anyone have pictures of the stock Deluxe? Rather like the stickering and want to do up my Deluxe the original way.

What were the colour options?

Thanks guys!

Jain might have it. I say 'might' because my friend was trying to get a stock bore and piston a while ago and he tried Mysore but no dice. Its apparently all being hoarded now and prices are obnoxious if you can actually find them.

If somebody knows something to the contrary I'd be very happy to be corrected and would love to be added to the list of people who'll buy.

The piston, rings, gudgeon pin and circlips cost me 450 for the whole set. If you go to a retailer it'll cost 800 - 1,000 but I went directly to the place on JC Road so got it at their rate. 450 bucks makes it definitely worth the experiment as far as I'm concerned.

Btw, are you Shawn from the now-defunct jawaclub.com?

Cheers

Rahul

@ Ray 13

Hey thanks for the info! You might be right about Jain stores. However I do know of a guy from here in Mangalore who had to do his Roadking completely, including crank & piston, since everything had just seized & rusted up. He had asked me for Jain's no. which i gave him, and he went and picked up almost everything from there & some place in Bangalore. Now the guy's gone to the gulf and I don't have his contact, unfortunately.

Yep, that's me. Would I know you from the club? Dr. Amit,'s working on a different site and he still has all the info, might take some time though!

Jain motors chap has a lot of original stuff but he is wily chap. Couple of the items i bought from him turned out to be duds. ..a jikov carb for two k was wasted. ..

Better be a bit careful with him.

BTW here is my Yezdi sans the mirrors. Got a pair of Fiero FX/F2 mirrors today - they look ok. Will post a pic tomorrow of the full setup.

Here are some more pictures :
