Default Yamaha RX 100 Carburator Problem????

Hi guys,
I have this Yamaha RX 100 (1996), which i bought few months back. But problems started to develop recently after having serviced it with a local mechanic . When i bough the bike, it was giving me good mileage of 30+ km/Ltr and the smoke level was normal for an RX. After the day i serviced the bike i road it for an hour or so, crossed 80 once. Suddenly the engine started to die and later i realized the engine was started without checking whether the oil pump is pumping oil in the carb! so i went to another mech and make it sure the oil pump is providing oil to the curb. After that everything seemed fine for a while. But i started to notice the mileage has dropped to 20 km/L and more than usual smoke is coming out of the silencer, and recently fuel is coming out of the carbu's overflow pipe often, when engine is off but the carburatore's fuel key is on. Some info regarding my bike: spark plug's color closely matches the one with a healthy 2 stork spark plugs, which is brown. Top speed at different gears are as follows: 1st - 20, 2nd - 40, 3rd - 70, 4th - 100+ km/h. Carburatore make is Mikcarb made in India. Piston barrel is a G3. What's there for me to do at this point, i want to change the Carb with the 135's carb. is that OK? and how will i recognize if i'm getting a genuine carb from Yamaha?

Pardon my English guys.

Hello Deserteagle:- I could pressume there could be two issues. First, the carburetor's packing:- float, packing(gasket) etc that is for the fuel leakage. Second, to check if the AF mixture is set correct, that is something you'll need to fiddle with the air screw to get the right position. Though you have mentioned the plug color is brown, however, without seeing the picture of plug would be difficult to assume if it is right.

You can fit the RX135 carburetor on to your bike, however, first go check the above to understand the issue.

Btw, Do you get Mikuni carb from Yamaha showroom there?

There are two variants of carb you get for RX135 - 4 speed and 5 speed.

The OEM Carb assembly for RX135 is Mikuni / UCAL Mikuni. The Carb assembly are different for both 4-Speed & 5-Speed versions.

4-Speed: '4TL 01' with Main Jet = 165 & Pilot Jet = 17.5
5-Speed: '4TL4 20' with Main Jet = 135 & Pilot Jet = 15.0

Note: The type code is mentioned just above the 2-T oil Inlet in the carb, with that the originality can be confirmed. There is already a thread for RX which details all the above mentioned information.

Seniors please share your thoughts.

as i know very little of carburatore, and it seems i have to choose between carburatores of two different specifications. so i'm stating my requirements, can anyone suggest me, which variant (4s/5s) will serve my purpose best. what i want is my byke to be able to cruise at 80+km/h speed for a longer duration (e.g. 1-2 hours flat) without being stressed. based upon this which variant will be best for my 4 speed Yamaha rx 100? Later i'll upgrade the bore kit to 135's, but i dont' want to change the gear box to 5 speed. Please advise.

You can cruise in 80 Kmph in Rx100 no issues; fix the carbs for now. Take your Rx to a competent mechanic & check the entire carb. The fuel seems to be overflowing through the float, but get that confirmed through a COMPETENT mechanic or Y.A.S.S.

i think the float is cracked on damaged. thats why the fuel is overflowing. had the issue on my bullet carb. A new float and needle fixed it.

You get RX135 bore kits from Yamaha showroom? I'm curious.

thanks jd666 and aargee. I also think the culprit is the carb, just last week i cleaned the carb hopping that would improve my situation but it has only made matter worse. I'm thinking of fitting my byke with a RX 135 carb (4 speed).

@SriramEfunds: as I'm from Bangladesh we don't have RX 135 here, i only was able to spot one in the last 7 years. I have to buy it from India. as i know a guy, who runs a motorcycle parts business said he can provide one though it will take some time. I also have to source the carb from India. The only Yamaha dealer available here, charges three times for the same parts and everything! .
