Default KB-100 to 125 Conversion

Has anyone converted a KB-100 RTZ into a 125? I understand that the middle part of the crank-case needs to be changed.

The crank side covers, crankshaft, carb (except for leaner jets and needle) and other things are the same.

Would also like to know if the Prowler's 5-speed tranny and 5-plate clutch can be used in this. If anyone has done this before, I'd appreciate the advice. Thanks.

It can be done but at this time with almost no spares in the market its best to avoid it...... if you are still interested its safer and cheaper to just source a whole engine from the junk and fit it to the current chassis after a rebuild and get your number punched on it,

as for the prowler bits most of us here have not see a picture of this mystery let alone one in the flesh so cant really comment on that.

You beat me to it.

Was just going to ask what a prowler is.

Only one I know of is the Plymouth and it runs on four wheels

^^ bajaj was experimenting with a KB125, 5 speed, and a caliber croma front cowling. Called it the prowler. Was launched in pune only iirc. It was the last of the two strokes, when pollution norms phased them out.

We all know that much but it seems hardly anybody has seen one....i think this will remain a mystery machine along with the shadow

Default my 2 cents

While the 125 had more power, it somehow wasn't as successful as at the KB100 and one of the reasons I see was that it arrived at the very end of the 2-stroke era in our country. So with not very many of them sold(compared to the other models of the time), shortly after its demise spares were hard to get for the 125 while there wasn't any such problem for the KB100.

Back then I had heard of a few people converting the KB100 into a KB125, a couple of them were direct engine replacements while a few were just bore/head replacements.

I would say, if you have the time and money you might still be able to do the conversion but then it sure would be a herculean task.

Maybe I would have thought about it if I had one more KB100 and if I had come across a KB125 in a not so good shape. Hmmmmmm well in that case, probably I would try and resurrect the KB125.

So maybe if I have a KB100 and a KB125 and then one more of each to spare, then I would think of keeping two originals(Kb100 and Kb125) and then use the other two to make a KB100 modified into a KB125

Would sure love to know if and how you proceed with the project. Do you have a KB100 right now? and how do you plan to sources parts etc for the 125?

KB125s are very cheap to buy coz they do not command the resale value of RX bikes.

It could be very well cheaper to buy a KB125 than to mod a kb100 to a kb125

The KB 125 had a distinct growl above 5 K RPM, and had the best low to mid RPM pull. The bike failed because of seizures, which could not be solved by the manufacturer, and also because no rebore was possible, and each seizure of bore and piston meant changing the entire Bore and Piston kit, along with crank re-conditioning.
