Default Need help with RX 135 (4 Speed)

Hi there,

First of all I'm a noob when it comes to bike it love riding but don't know any technical stuff. I'm from Chennai. I got the RX135 96 model. I got it from 13K and took it to a workshop near by spend around 7K to fix it not sure what he really fixed it might figured out I'm not good at this. Now my problem is the sound from exhaust is too loud unlike Yamaha it happened after the doing a service. The mileage really come down to 14 to 15Kmpl. I'm not a rash driver usually I go at a speed about 50 to 60kmh. My native is not Chennai. I'm from Kerala so not sure about the place here.

Could someone advice which local shop I should take and what I have to change for better mileage and performance?

First and foremost check the oil level in the oil tank.It might be due to lack of oil.

Get the carb and your exhaust cleaned for better mileage and performance.

what I have to change for better mileage and performance?

Hi, A bit of basic knowhow would help you a lot. 7k on the bike should really make the engine almost new but since you dont know what the mech has done, better forget the amount spent.
Now, you have to find a reliable mech there and im sure some Chennai guys here like Sriramefunds would be able to help you out on that. Things to be checked and changed on the bike are, piston-ring condition/ compression, any airleaks, head and exhaust gasket, silencer to header pipe joint, the mech cud have changed the silencer muffler tube, carb jets, new original airfiler, new oils, new plug. [ All the above items incl. new piston and boring should not cost you more than 5k] but let the mech and your fellow xbhpian decide.

if she doesn't sputter, makes less power, has the same exhaust pipe, returns shitty mileage and goes like tak tak tak when you idle her well my friend she's lost all the compression

Thanks for the response! Thanks Noor for approving the thread.

I been reading a lot about two stock engine and it's working. Now I kind of know how stuff works. Before my cousin used to take care of maintenance so I never need to know about it. After relocated to Chennai I'm kinda lost.

@yamdoot
I now sure about Air leak but there is oil leak for sure because i see oil stain where i keep my bike. Last time when I took the bike to a mechanic he said he cleaned the silencer .. After that I think my mileage went down and a crappy sound. I'm not getting that genuine Yamaha beat. I'll check the rest.

@The Great
I used to pour oil with petrol.. that what i was told to do. I have to find a good mechanic this time to get things done, Is it something I can do like cleaning and exhaust and crab if so where is the crab? sorry i'm just in learning curve I don't want to use any other bike or get a new one, I can't give up on my RX because I learned how to ride on RX since then I always had RX .

@dafc
Yeah I think your rite

For anyone from Chennai: I heard some Shankar near Chepuk is good with RX? I heard he is also drag racer

I paid 150 bucks for overbore 225 for the piston and labour charges were extra, had to chamfer the ports myself it is very important to make sure the ports are chamfered otherwise rings give away in the first 1000kms. But before jumping the gun take her to a mechanic and get a compression test done if it is less than let's say 140ish PSI you could try re-ringing it see if that helps and make it double sure the ports have been chamfered. If it is even less than that and there's piston slap or rattle you'll have to overbore or sleeve it up if you can't overbore it anymore.
